Although I did set a record by making it 'til January 18th on summer tires, I had to put the old Blizzaks on tonight. I had seen the 13" Bullitt/Cobra/Mach 1 brakes with Bullitt wheels but I honestly didn't know if they'd fit with the plain 5-spokes...




Still have a little clearance between the wheel and the caliper...





These things bite like crazy...




And for comparitive purposes (why I hate winter)...

Those tires look awesome I would have no use for them down here, though they look like they perform well in snow/ice

I am braving the bitter blizzards we are unusually having here on Maxxis MA-501 all seasons. They are working good on the ice and snow, and are great in the wet. It rains here 250/365 anyway, so I can't even attempt a summer tire. I wish I could afford another set of rims and winter tires. Oh well, I have a second car for winter.

They're sweet in everything but heavy salt. They tend to cover the roads in central Ohio to the point that they're always white, whether it be snow or salt. The snow is kinda predictable...you pretty much know how the car's gonna react with any given pedal mashing, but the salt can be pretty surprising...you hit a spot where it's piled up a little and it's like driving on a gravel road. These particular ones are an old model of Blizzak (MZ-01) which I originally got for a BMW but ended up not using them until this car. IMHO, there are a lot of summer tires that are great, but in the winter there's only one snow tire...

Pansy?....Not so much. I just like driving a RWD year-round and it's nice knowing I can get where I need to get. Plus, when the roads are covered I like driving by, honking and waving at the FWD cars that are pulled off the road 'cause they couldn't make it

Before these I had some Conti Extreme Contacts (directional, W-rated yet still all-season) which actually did pretty good in the winter, but I have some pretty long, steep hills to tackle to get home and snows are about the only way to go.

Try driving on 2'' thick sheet of wet ice (they don't salt or scrape/plow here) on bald GY Eagle Gatorbacks. That'll put some hair on your chest and crap in your pants. I love the ContiExtreme Contacts. When it comes down to new tires, I will buy a set of those. I just got the Maxxis tires because I needed something to get by until winter is up, or at least returns to normal winter, which is cold rain. Hopefully rural western Washington will learn to handle winter conditions in the future. I did see a snow plow......things are looking up. All hail thou whost plow thy roads.

Ya know, the only thing that I've seen take a beatin' by the salt was the "stainless steel" stock exhaust. That stuff looked like absolute a$$ when it came off.
I'm sure eventually I'll get a 2nd car...I'm just waiting for the right Audi Quattro to hit our used car lot (now THOSE are fun in the winter!).

Ive got a pair of blizzaks on mine and they seem to do very well in the snow. Mine arent that great on dry or wet roads though. Its likely due to the face that i didnt get one of the performance snow models (theyre only speed rated to 99). They are supposed to get better snow traction then the performance snows which was my biggest concern. You have to be trying, to lose traction in the snow.

It's best to put the Blizzaks (and other winter tires) on all four corners. You want all four tires to have about the same amount of grip when turning, braking, etc. to maintain control.
I've been using Blizzaks for years on my Subies and they do make a big difference even with AWD or 4WD.

I was visiting Biloxi, MS in '94, and it snowed on the beach. I lived in Texas for 20 years. I remember it snowing in '84-85 in Austin. I lived in Houston for a bit. I have seen some freak cold weather in Galveston. If the conditions are right, it can ice up or snow anywhere. This year is messed up especially. Or maybe the snow follows me. I haven't been in New England in awhile, hence the 60* weather. Call the Weather Channel. I am on to something here.
