I finally got to finish the blower install on our 05 project car. I went with the Saleen unit, as I felt is was the best designed supercharger kit available, plus it has a much more "factory" look than all the other kits, and I like that.

Our goal with this car is about 500rwhp on the stock motor. Naturally, the stock Saleen kit isn't sold for that kind of power level, so I put on a smaller pulley to bump the boost from 4psi, to closer to what the other kits are putting out. I added 39lb 03 Cobra injectors for some extra fuel supply, and again, the factory look (they use the same EV6 connector). The only other parts on the car right now is the Bassani axle back and our own PSP air kit.

I have not dynoed the car yet, as I am waiting on my Diablo MAFia so I can make sure the MAF doesn't peg. But I took it out for a "test" drive last night to get the basic feel for it.

It's exactly what I wanted. The power is amazing. From 2nd gear until you let off, the car just pulls like mad. And I haven't even gone WOT with it yet. The powerband is just sick, I couldn't be happier.

Out on the highway, I came across a guy in a brand new M3. He pulled next to me at a red light, I looked at him and smiled, he smiled back, and it was on. On the green, I took off easy, so he got the jump. That M3 left HARD. Once I got into 2nd I caught him, then in 3rd I passed him, then after about 2 car lengths ahead of him I slowed down as he wasn't catching me at that point. Keep in mind that I hadn't even gone 3/4 throttle since the car wasn't tuned yet. We met at another light, and he was cool, telling me how much he loved my car and such.

I'll get some dyno numbers up as soon as I tune it :nice: .

Dear Sam,

Thank for the detailed account of this modification...

I am planning on the Saleen Supercharger for my 2005 GT but Saleen told me that they are still working on the PCM tune for the automatics...

What size was the different pulley and where did you purchase it???

Did you change the fuel pump to 255LB, along with the 39LB injectors???

Please continue to update me regarding your progress...

I live in Chicago, so I'll have the work done by a local SVT Ford Dealer...

Thanks, Dave

Well first off, it's Sal, not Sam ;)

The stock pump is 255. I didn't know this at first and put in the Focus pump, then found out it's the same thing.

I'll find out if I need more fuel when I dyno it.

We do our own tuning, so I did not send the PCM to Saleen.

The pulley we used was a 3.4" on the blower. It was custom made.

Where do you live, or where is your shop located on LI. I used to live in Malverne(a small town in Nassau, near Rockville Centre, Garden City, Lynbrook) and just moved to Bayside, Queens looking for a good place to get some work done that me and my friend cannot do, ex. Gears. Please let me know, I wouldnt mind taking a nice drive to get to your place, if you want the business :)

Me thinks that your 3v 4.6l is going to blow with a goal of 500RWHP on rotating stock.

It's all in the tune. :D
That being said, accidents can happen.
Here's to a long life.

Sal, very nice choice on the SC! :worship:
I can't wait to see some pics and dyno results.

Your name is Sal Mennella?

For real?

b/c - no offense intended if it is - but it sounds like a joke (i.e. salmonella, like from raw chicken)

Awesome about the Saleen, though. Post some pictures, if you can!

Must feel sluggish compared to your '01 Lightening, though, eh?

I know a guy who's got an 80-something Mustang that makes about a 7-flat quarter mile and is pushing 1,500 hp. Seems pretty crazy to me to get in that thing...

Awesome choice :nice: and nice kill with the M3..that car is fast as hell so good job.

Just one thing...i've read a lot different test reports stating that 475 rwhp is the max..once you're past that the car won't take it. Interested to see if you can pull it off for the long haul...hopefully you're right when you say it's all in the tune. Good luck. :flag:

I've read the same thing, if it's not the engine then it's the clutch. A good tune cant change the metalurgy of your rotating stock. You may live with it @ that much for a while but if ANYTHING goes wrong say buh bye.

True. I never said that the rest of the car would take it. :rlaugh:

Congrats Sal! Glad you are happy. I too am happy, and not yet tuned either. (This will happen tomorrow).

I have the same HP goals, and once tuned and a 500 mile trip, I will go WFO and let you know what the Procharger is made of.

Looks like we will both end up in the 11s... I just wish I was further up North to take advantage of the cooler air...

Keep us posted, I will do the same.

I have throttled mine enough to feel it stand up, so I KNOW these things with ANY intercooled blower will be just sick!

I will be in touch. Oh, and you can see my install in the "Add me to the list" thread.

Take care Sal. I will talk to you soon!

Sal, saw the car last week at Oak Beach, very sharp. You did an outstanding job on it but one small thing. How does one get to go for a spin in it? I'd love to be a passenger on North Ocean Ave or Nicholls. Hey, i even have a "get out of jail" shield. Let me know what you think...lol.

Heh, if you want to stop by the shop, I think a ride can be arranged ;).

Can't be Supercharged?

Hey Sal,
What do you think about this guy's post on the Corner Carvers Forum?

"Those of you wanting to supercharge your 2005 GT, sorry, but you can't"

"So today I had the distinguished honor to disassemble a 2005 GT crate engine. Now, while in the past, I have disagreed with Ford and their decisions regarding mod motors. However, I regret to inform everybody that the new 2005 GT cannot be supercharged:

In an effort to increase the combustion efficiency and reduce emissions, Ford has created a piston that will not handle ANY boost. The top ring is less than .100 inches from the top of the piston in 2 areas, and .200 or so in other areas. Ford has also used a cast iron ring land, which is then cast into the piston. I'm not entirely sure of the process they use, but the piston itself is made of 2 materials.

So because of the very small ringlands, the hypereutectic pistons won't survive any boost, let alone any error in N/A tuning, and even if the pistons survived the tune, the increased cylinder temps would cause the dissimilar materials to separate."

I think this post is from last October.

Thanks for your input,
