Saleen Series II Blower questions

I just got a saleen series II blower for pretty much nothing and was wondering if i need to upgrade the MAF and the fuel pump if im only running the stock 8lb pulley. I did some research and it seems like you dont need to until you up the boost. It came with the 30 lb/hr injectors but thats about it, I have a parts list, can i still get everything else i need from saleen?
 
What all are you missing? Most parts you can buy any brand of with out paying the Saleen price for it.

I would look into a 90mm Lightning MAF and SVT Focus Fuel Pump. These parts can be bought pretty much anywhere.

I have a Series II and have the above mentioned parts - 90mm LMAF and an SVT Foci Fuel Pump - both items can be had for under $100 each. But if everything on the blower is stock and you are looking to keep it that way and save money for now, you can use your stock fuel pump as supercharged Saleen's use the same GT fuel pump from the factory. I think they also use the stock GT MAF.

Did you ONLY get the blower, intake manifold/intercooler, and injectors?? No heat exchanger, water pump, Fan Controller to CCRM module, accelerator/cruise cables, intercooler coolant tank, EGR, etc, etc...? Theres a bunch of little miscellaneous parts.

As mentioned, for some of the parts you can get aftermarket upgrades that are better than the stock Saleen equipment and probably cost less. Such as the LFP Heat Exchanger and Super Tank (coolant).
 
The only parts I got were supercharger, intake manifold, 30lb injectors and fuel rails, but it was only 100 bucks.

Im only planning on running the stock 8lb pulley til at least next summer so if i dont need to drop the tank and get the MAF right now i'll wait till im ready to push it a little harder. Hopefully i can find all the extra little things i need.

Also what do you guys recommend for an inlet tube, i saw chicane sport makes one but is there a better option?
 
Wouldn't recommend those either. Causes high stress on the pump. The BAP's are prone to failing as well. People, do it right the first time, or don't do it at all!!

Just get it over with, buy a cobra tank w/ 2 pumps, and you'll never need any more fuel than that.

I've heard this too and my friend used to use them and had the same problems with them eventually frying the pump.

At the minimum do Focus fuel pump and if you want a strong fuel setup do Cobra Tank and pumps.
 
BAD idea. Go ahead and use the stock fuel pump, if you want massive lean spikes and a blown engine. :nonono:

Massive lean spikes and a blown engine? So is that how Stock Series II Saleen's come from the factory, ready to blow up on less than 290hp?? Theres NA cars on here making 290hp on the stock pump. As long as the car gets tuned properly I don't see any problems.

If you are going to mod it, then yeah I'd definitely upgrade. And you don't need 42lb injectors at a minimum as noted. I am running 39lb Cobra injectors with a ported/pullied Series II with no problems. My tuner actually recommended them for my setup.

What evidence you got to back this up? My tuner uses them all the time and has never heard of a failure yet. Mine works flawlessly! They are not at all hard on the pump. If anything, what kills fuel pumps is running the tank too low on fuel...which is a big no-no on a supercharged vehicle.

Exactly....plenty of internet speculation. It only has to happen to one person for rumor to spread. I'll be the first person to critisize Kenne Bell, but their BAP fly's under my radar. :nice:

Your going to be pushing more than 290HP with a Saleen blower. At least 330whp. The stock pump can handle that amount, but it's risky. I only said 42lb minimum because you are better safe than sorry. You start cheapin' out, your going to blow the motor.

I think you have your blowers confused. This is a Series II Saleen blower, not the Series IV. Stock they put down around 290 to the wheels. Heres a LINK to a guy who posted an install guide for the Series II on his GT. The kit was bone stock straight from Saleen - he put down 286hp to the wheels after the install (dyno graph is on the right of the page).

I myself have a Series II thats ported and pullied and am only putting down 323rwhp. The intercooler on these blowers suck. Plus belt slip is an issue, my belt is eating up my rad hose. They make upgrades for both areas, thats what I'll be working on next. My numbers are low, but 350tq feels pretty damn good for now.

And a lot of guys run 39lb Cobra injectors with modded Series II blowers. Again shoot me some facts, I'd like to see who blew their motor with a Series II because they "cheaped" out and didn't get a minimum of 42lb injectors.

It's not the blower that's so inefficient it's the manifold design and intercooler on the Saleen kit's that's so restrictive. The Cooler itself isn't so bad, but it's not sealed very well to the intake, so trying to keep the hotter ACT's contained can be an issue. Also, the lower manifold runners are very twisty and restrictive, as is the inlet, which is what hurts these blowers so much.

With some extensive porting and a little ingenuity to seal up the areas around the intercooler brick, you can make some decent power with these kits, but it takes a little effort.

You’ve also got to remember, these M90’s are less than 1.5L in displacement. Even the smallest aftermarket positive displacement kits are now 2.1L and usually Twin Screws in comparison to the hybrid roots design of the Eaton. Couple the top end efficiency of a Twin Screw compressor, along with it’s much larger displacement and therefore capacity and you’ll see why there’s such a big horsepower difference. That being said, were these blowers closer in displacement and utilized similar flowing components, you’d be surprised how close the performance of the Roots Hybrid and Twin Screw compressor can get at this level. :nice:
