Right where it is now. Mark where the rotor points on the distributor and mark the base of the distributor and the block so it goes back where it was. When you back it up one tooth you will feel it. Drop it back down, verify the marks on the base and block, and the rotor should be pointing just behind the mark you made for it.

Thanks for the help. I just said screw it and started over. I needed to learn to do it anyway lol. I pulled #1 spark plug, plugged it with paper towel turned motor over by hand till it shot out, from there I set balancer to my original top dead center mark of zero and restabbed it. Started on first crank and set timing to 18 advanced which is what was recommended to me from the guy that recurved my dizzy. Seemed to all work out. Thanks all for the info.

Did you disconnect your Vacuum advance while setting timing??
I like to crank my balancer to 10 degrees advanced so when I set the distributor its a bit closer for start up..
