SC-Trim VS S-trim?

Man, if I had known about the prices of the Novi 2000 then I would have saved up for it. I too should have saved my money and bought a better blower than I did. I am happy as I am sure RydeOn is. But he and I will both say, we would rather have the Novi 2000 on our cars.

Why? I researched both vortech and paxton before I bought anything and I went with vortech b/c it runs off the engines oil. I also had a friend with a paxton and when a bearing seized after 6 months paxton gave him some problems with his warranty. The vortech sc fit me better b/c I didn't want the injectors, pump, ignition since I already had that on my car. Also, you can upgrade the sc-trim head unit to a s-trim for $800. That will soon be done on my car along with the 8 rib belt. I think both are great blowers but why is paxton some much better that you would rip off the vortech? I mean, I love my vortech!

Why is running off the engines oil so important to you tunedin302?

Personally the Self contained units are a great idea and keep fragments from a blower or motor failure seperate from each other. I have also seen first hand what happens when you tap a oil pan and miss a small fragment, it took out my buddies bottom end, even after packing the flutes with grease, magnets, etc...

The Paxton brackets are nice, better then the lower model Vortechs, the ATI brackets are even better and the tension system on the ATI is unmatched by either Vortech or ATI, almost eliminates slippage.

The regular V-1 S-Trim is old technology, I think you will see if phased out in the near future. The V-2 SQ trim is a much better unit, and comes in a little over $3100 at most places, the Novi 2000 is usually around $3000, and the P1SC 2 core intercooled kit can be had for around $3350 or so.

Just my $.02 Upgrading a V-1 SC to a V-1 S trim is a waste of $800 dollars to me, plus you'll need new 8 rib pullies add another $300

Buying a slightly larger blower now will allow you to run is slower, make it more efficent and make more power down the road. If you go with a smaller blower you will spin it harder, lower efficency, create more heat, and have to spend a fortune to upgrade later down the road.

Rick 91GT - I appreciate the insight. A major factor that played in my decision with the Vortech was how Paxton handled my friends warranty after six months. His head unit seized up and Paxton claimed he used the wrong oil. He was a very competent ford mechanic and I don't believe he used the wrong oil. Either way, I was steered away from Paxton by that ordeal. I mentioned it running of the engines oil as a factor since I understood that when you upgrade to say a 7qt then the temp may drop in the head unit. In my mind, it seems that the self contained unit would build up more heat since the oil does not circulate and there is less of it than when plumbed in with the engines oil. Again, this was just my impression and not proven by scientific testing. I was just surprised that the paxton is prefered so much over the Vortech. I know the ATI would really be the dominator but I didn't consider it at the time. Also, it is my understanding that the sc-trim and the s-trim both use the same casing but different impellers. The switch to the S-trim impeller costs $800. I know thats a good chunk of change but I can run more boost at the same speed. I guess to me, a blower that runs 8-10 psi while lowering the risk of bearing failure would be great. I think I can accomplish that by changing the impeller to an S-trim (and of course the 8 rib). My question is really, does it matter that much if I ran 8 psi on a Paxton vs 8 psi on a Vortech?
(absent aftercoolers) What is the difference in hp for the engine to turn the vortech-S vs paxton-2k? Again, I appreciate your insight.

I have an S trim and love it..If i were to get a different blower: Paxton Novi 2000..If your not packin a paxton just get outta the way...

Hey 302 guy. I see what your saying and I agree. Paxtons old blowers sucked. Those are the old SN series that are self contained, so stay away. But they quit making those like what, 10 years ago. The NOVI series is the new deal that is not self contained. So you know Vortech and Paxton are the same company now, and the blowers and customer service are equivalent as far as quality. If you are comparing S-trim vs N2k as far as power, the N2k will make more power at every RPM, because its a better blower.

Why does everyone keep bringing up these huge blowers for a car that doesnt need it??? He asked for 350-450rwhp which a Sc-Trim will take care of. I'm running stock ported heads, stock cam, stock bottom end, with a typhoon intake and 2-1/4 inch exhaust and still making 405rwhp with a real safe tune. With a custom cam you should be at least 420rwhp. I'm making 10#'s of boost to accomplish this and this was only switching to a 2.87" 6-rib pulley. I'm running NO T-Rex Pump and NO MSD BTM and my car is running excellent. PM me about any other details and I will prove to you that the SC-Trim is PERFECT for your car and what you need to run with it!!

BTW- I recently ran 12.5 @ 112 with this combo and that was granny shifting at 5,500rpms (makes peak hp at 6k) and launching at 3 grand (1.89 60') in order to keep my stock trans,rear, and motor together for the winter.

Yes the SC will get him to his goal, no one really disputes that but look how hard you are spinning it with that 2.87" pulley, that creates heat. You could put a S trim on and spin it slower, have a 8 rib set-up that should slip less and it will create less heat.

We made 425/465 with an A-trim making 10# and spinning pretty hard.

If down the road like all of us do he wants more power the blower is already there.

I sold my old set-up to a friend, we swapped cams and put his A-trim on it. It barely see's 3lbs of boost at 6200rpms and it has the small blower pulley and 8" crank pulley on it, it now needs a S-trim upgrade. $800 for the upgrade plus new pullies and belts. We already bought a inline pump which is on the car, and a MSD BTM....if you were to buy it all seperate it would cost more. We really ended up not needing the BTM with the tune that is on the car, but it is there if needed.

I agree it's a better blower but it all matters what your plans are afterwards and $$. A 405rwhp street car is enough to hold me over for quite some time. I question the 8-rib setup though. I know the 87-93 S-Trim comes with it but it doesnt come with an 8-rib for the newer stangs, only 6-rib?? I know because they use the serpentine system but those guys dont have any problem making 12#'s of boost with a 6-rib and s-trim?? Just a thought...

Hmmm ... good point. Someone please explain that. Even after reading all of these posts I am still glad I went w/ the Vortech SC kit. It was definately the best choice for me.

The belt routing on a new car with the reverse rotation blower has atleast 75% or more pulley wrap, look at how much the fox has....much less.

I just put a Sq trim on a 01 last night, I'll take a pic of the belt tonight so you can see the difference.

When I made the 8rib comment it was for the Fox style stangs.

I am running a SC-trim with GT-40 heads and intake. With a powerpipe it makes 6-7psi of boost, stock pullies. My friend also runs this blower and with only a change of the crank pulley to a 7 inch pulley (still using 6 rib belt) makes 10-11psi. It is definitely worth the money if you already have a btm, fuel pump, ect. If not you can pick you up a NOVI 2k cheap at superchargers4less.com that will come with those goodies. I have about $1900 in my sc-trim, MSD6-btm, gss340 fuel pump.

Okay, I've been following this thread for the last 5 days. I got a little confused, but I think I'm not anymore. Let me see if I got this straight.

The Vortech SC-trim is a smaller self-contained unit?
The Vortech S-trim is a larger engine oil tapping unit?
The Vortech SQ-trim is the newer version of the S-trim, and is quieter?

Are the S-trim and the SQ-trim supposed to cost the same, cus I found a place that is selling either one for $2499 with the FMU, boost retard unit, high-flow fuel pump, and the bypass valve kit. Is that right?

Not exactly,
1) The SC runs off the engines oil, not self-contained. It produces the least amount of boost of the three because of it's impeller.
2) The S runs off the engines oil and has an upgraded impeller over the SC.
3) The SQ is the new quiet version. Apparently it is more efficent than the SC and S. Also runs off the engines oil.
4) The casing of the SC and the S is the same. So, they look the same from the outside in terms of size.

So of the three, the SQ is the most efficient and has the most potential to make boost? Thanks for clarifying that for me.
