someone I know with a coupe just put turndown's right off the mufflers last week with a set of flowmaster 40's. sounds mean and all but the drown at 2000K on the highway was awfull. I tried something tonight and it worked. I backed off the clamps on the dumps and turned both of them inwards so they were facing eachother and tightend them back up. He went for a drive and said the drown was almost not there anymore. anyone else ever try this

I hate dumps... Hate the sound, hate the lack of tailpipes, and hate the smell...

Your best bet is to run some tailpipes, who knows maybe on a GT if you try this theory at the back of the car, angle the tips inward some, it might work as well??? Whatever works in the end and whatever you like is what counts!

For guys who hate drone: Jerry Beach (he's a smart guy - the older folks will remember him) started a thread about using a chamber to cancel drone. From what I know of acoustics and nodal points and all that, it seemed like it could work well.

i tried that on my GT...it didn't make much difference if any. not sure why it works so well on dumps; maybe more velocity, maybe there's just more room under the car for sound to bounce around  . i bet its because the dumps are closer together than the tailpipes.

Those arent dumps, those are cutouts... They look to be before the muffler also.

They sell mufflers out there with a cutout built in. When open it dumps before the axle and is very loud. When closed its routed through tailpipes and quiet!

Sorry cutout and dumps. But they are right before the h pipe and right after the headers.

dumps

My wife's cousin had a 92 mustang with a real quiet exhaust. I asked him why didnt he put some flowmasters on that baby and he said he likes to remain incognito. I asked him what he meant and he hit a toggle switch and it got alot louder... "They are great for intimidation" he said. "I just keep the quiet exhaust so people will want to actually race me, then I flip the switch"

I have Super 40's and no pipes after them. It is just quiet enough for me to say it has mufflers. Does drone a bit, at 45-55, with the 4.10 gears. Conversation is difficult, but I don't ever drive it to go somewhere while talking. I would add turndowns, but I don't want the weight, and they blow up dirt and dust.

Never been a problem at stoplights, really either.

Just like that sound....
