Sending Blower Back, Any Precautions?

Hey guys, my blower is leaking at the bottom of the case below where the pulley is. It has all those torx head bolts all the way around it. Seems it must be a seal thats leaking and causing oil to drip down. So I guess I need to send it back and let the warranty cover it. Has anyone sent back a blower before? Anything I need to do specifically or specially? How long is it gone for? Is there anyway to fix this, without sending it back? Thanks guys.

Iv opened my s-trim completely up before ..i was bored...then closed it back up. Its nothing more then a thin rubber seal that runs around the housing. If you didnt want to send it back, you could easily inspect the leakage, and use some sort of sealant to fix the problem. But NO, i dont have any tips for sending it back.

It may just some leakage from the oil drain. If thats the case, some teflon tape would fix that right up. If your really worried about the warrenty, send it back...but i wouldnt, i like to fix things on my own, ecspecially just a minor leak.

Just got my S-trim back yesterday(4-27). Let me tell you, it will be about 3-4 week turn around since you live in VA.From the time I shipped it to them and got it back was 28 days.. I shipped through UPS and it took 6 days it to get there, inlcuding the weekend and I had it 3 day UPS'ed back to me. But I went from GA to Cali, so that seems pretty fair. After they receive it, they will break it down and inspect it,then call you for approval to repair it. Then it's 5-7 business day turn around before they ship it back.

I also took mine apart before sending it back, really nothing to it,BUT you can't get the bearings anywhere. I was gonna rebuild mine, but couldn't find bearings rated for the speed the shaft turns, so I sent it back. The seals look like over the counter seals and don't look hard to replace,if you have the tools. But, good thing about sending it back is the 6 month warranty. All I can say is be prepared to wait...

I'd just send it back if it was me, I think i'd next day it there and back though.. Be worth the 80 or 100 bucks it would cost

Yeah right, your crazy Jason. I can wait a day or two before id pay the extra money.

Me and my dad was discussing opening it up and seeing if we could fix it. I am sure I could fix it no problem. Think that would be just as good? I plan on putting a smaller blower pulley on anyway, so it wouldnt bother me if it fixed it.

I am positive its not from that. I turned the car off, and you can see it drip every few seconds. I cranked the car up and gave it a rev, then let most of the dripping stop, took the blower off and you can see where it is leaking from. I would take a pic to show it but I cant find my good camera. I really think I could fix it on my own.

If I take those torx head bolts out, will any loose items fall out? Or will it just set right off and have a seal in front of me. I have some good sealer that I used around the oil pan where I tapped it. Think that would work? Thanks

I would keep the current rubber gasket in place and just clean the surface up with some rubbing alchohol. If the pulley is removed, that makes it even easier, i did mine with the pulley on and only got it to open up about an inch, but it was enough for me to get my fingers in. with the pulley shaft up, just remove the bolts and it should slide right open...DO IT SLOWLY...just incase...

if you remove the pulley and break that seal they have on the shaft then you void the 3 year warranty down to 1. but if they break it open it is a diff story how do the know you didint have a bigger pulley on there? best off to let the pros do it and you wont have any warranty issue's.

If you send it, INSURE IT. Packages do occasionally get "lost". Especially when they have a vortech sticker on the box!

With my luck it would get lost. Thanks for saying that.

Sirsureshot39, do you think cleaning the seal and putting some sealer around around the case would be ok? I will PM you more than liekly, LOL.

I would send it back, I know, it's hard to wait on something like this but think in the long run. Maybe you can't get it to seal, or where you have it apart and bolting it back together something gets in a bind, blower goes down a month later after you fixed the leak. If the blower is returned and they determine that it has been apart, warranty shot to hell. If there was no warranty then I would pull it apart myself but not now.

Ahh damn, lol. When I got the kit, I never opened the information packet. When I opened it, it says I was supposed to return the filled out warranty info in 30 days. Did I screw up my warranty already? Or is Vortech a understanding company?

You'll have to call if you didn't get the paperwork done.....it is really important. I just had a customer of mine not send in for his ATI extended warranty, and now he doesn't get the blower oil at a discount.

SEND IT BACK, if they screw it up, it falls on them if you screw it up it cost YOU more $$$$$$ and they can tell the blower is brand new and un-tampered with it also has a date and send a copy of your reciept. Call Vortech tomorrow.

I'm all for fixing stuff sourself but Dave the thing is BRAND new, dude send it back. If the seals were ment to have sealer around them, they would have them stock.

Always insure every package and send it back in a plain box....

My rebuild cost $326 for rebuild and $25 for a helicoil. I bought the blower used and it was whinning really loud at idle, so I sent it back. Bad thing is a V-2 cost more to rebuild than a V-1, which mine is. All together with shipping there and back I have a total of $420..
