I am looking at the UPR Adjustable Shifter Handle. I know all about the after market shifters available, Steeda, MGR, Pro, etc. and do not wish to purchase one of those at this time. UPR says their unit will shorten the shifts, and that is all I'm looking for. In my opinion, all the other shifters I mentioned do the same thing, shorten shifts, but at a cost of $175 versus $30 for the UPR. The primary difference between the stock shifter and all the after market shifters is that the after market shifters shorten shifts by simply shortening the length of the shaft. I proved this to myself by taking the knob off my stock shifter and holding the shaft about halfway down, I went for a ride and shifted in this manner. the shifts were much shorter, due simply to the different geometry. Anyway, I am going to give the UPR unit a shot, what the hell, $30 bucks is chump change, so I have nothing to lose. Any opinions? Does anybody have this unit? Thanks.

there is a huge diffence in getting an aftermarket shifter and just getting a new handle. trust me. I could beleive the difference in shifting when I got a new shifter on my cobra. just getting a handle wont be the same, sure it will be a little different but go ahead and buy the whole shifter, and I bought the upr shifter for mine, identical to the steeda triax but cost less.
Actually the shift handle length has almost nothing to do with a short throw.
A complete shifter uses a completly different piviot point to achive a short throw.
There is a big difference between a shifter handle and a complete shifter. Using a shorter stick has no effect on the movement of the shifter it takes the same distance to engage gears.

I don't agree with you. When I did my experiment, my hand moved about 6 inches between 1st and 2nd with the shifter ball on. When I removed the shifter ball and gripped the shaft about half way down, my hand moved only about 3-4 inches. So if I was an idiot and cut the shaft down to half its length and screwed on a knob, the throw would be shorter. Granted, shaft length doesn't have everything to do with the throw, but it sure has something to do with it. Shaft length is ONE reason that after market shifters are shorter, but not the only reason.
You can put a 1 inch handle on it and it doesn't matter.
Of course if you use a shorter shift handle your hand will move a shorter distance, you are moving a lever on a fixed point. The other end of the shifter is still moving just as far as before.
Take a stock shifter and a aftermarket one, remove the handle. Measure the distance the top of the shifter moves.............

You might as well just go for the whole shifter the steeda is what $150? Not to mention with that shift handle you wont have the smooth 2nd to 3rd shifting you would with the Tri-Ax or some other aftermarker shifter.
