I'm not into the 50's trucks, but wish i had never sold my '69 F250, original 390/C6 with a/c truck.
390 bored to 401, galaxie 500 heads, CJ valves, 270 cam, Keith Dorton 2bbl, long tubes, custom 3" exhaust, C6 with 2300 stall and shift kit, Dana 60 with 4.10's and limited slip...
Replaced/rebuilt everything mechanical/electrical or fluid related but it still looked like a work truck...
So, I get where you are going... man I miss that truck.

That was a nice one. I would've been inclined to convert it to half ton and retire it to street truck duty.. but some people enjoy a classic workhorse. A buddy of mine had a 1948 2 1/2 ton truck... Because he liked it.

I was really wanting a 77-78 because my dad had one, but I'm really digging the hot rod potential of this one.

ya, lots of 1/2 tonne and short beds around here, so, having a work/farm truck was different and fun. was no race truck, but was fun to play with ricers... well... up to about 60mph... she was about done by then.
Truck went to Ohio, guy that bought it had never seen a rust free example, he was pretty stoked, had plans to do the body and interior and make it a show truck... same reason, lots of short bed 1/2 tonnes, no work/farm trucks to be see he said. Lost touch with him, would have been nice to see it completed... even tho I never had intentions of doing body interior.

I would love a truck like the one you're interested in @Boosted92LX . I can't however justify owning a vehicle like that which seats only 3 people legally when I have 3 kids that I'd like to have cruise with me. I was about to purchase a very nice stock 67' Chevy short box 2wd for a very good price and then found out we were preggers with twins so I got the Mustang. Not the best family cruising car but hey it seats 4 (albeit uncomfortably).

The back seat was the only reason I got into mustangs. There was no way I could put kids and an adult in the passenger seat of my camaro

These reasons just reinforce the need/want factor. Open road. No wife. No kids. Sign me up please? Lol. I just like to have those small moments just for me. There are so few. Don't take me wrong, I want to spend most of my time with them(not so much anymore-they are 20-23 and a pita).

You can always just give the kids "turns" to ride with dad. A little one on one time?

I agree with you a little but my son is 7 and my twin daughters turn 3 in July so they are all still very enjoyable. I get plenty of alone time driving my 5.0 (when it's not on jack stands) during my commute to work and back. For the week day Ice Cream runs and weekend car shows I'd like my kids to join me. It is after all a family affair IMO. Maybe some day when they get older I'll get my "selfish" vehicle.

so true, mine was... me and the dog, leisurely drive thru farmland... bench seat so the old girl could sit right next to me and lean in.

My son has decided that truck is his. After all, he did talk me into buying it. He really wants it to stay pink, and I'm not driving a pink truck... Soooo i think that'll be his project. I have my work cut out for me with this project. I picked up two.. (2) 1950 F1 fords for $500 EACH today. One is a pretty solid cab and bed with rear fenders, and the other is complete, but rusted severely. Between the two I think I can build one really nice truck, and have leftovers for a ratrod. Not a bad deal.

I'm excited. This is gonna be cool.

Here's what happens when I "inspire" people.

#1. You decide to run a 4R70w, because it was my stated intention to do the same. You immediately contact a shop, and pay that guy big money to rebuild it. Only after having done that, you "discover" (because Mike looked at your posted pics) that there are two different transmissions, to fit two different engines (4.6 and SBF pattern). Mike is telling you that your's look wrong.

Do you blame yourself for not researching? Nope, You'll blame Mike for not telling you.

#2. You realize that the electrically controlled transmission will need an external method to control it's 4th gear engagement, and TC lockup. You research, and find out that there is a company that sells a black box for 500.00 that'll do that. You buy it.
Mike posts that he has found a manual solution to doing the same that only costs 200.00. You blame Mike for not telling you.

#3. You buy a cheap assed aluminum flex fan, ( actually, you've had it hangin' on a nail in your garage for the last 20 years) and install it (You know the kind that sposed to flatten out with RPM, and "save gas", or "increase HP" depending on your need?) After getting it done, you take it out for a test drive,.....and the flex fan proposes to the radiator.

They get married.

Mike posts a pic to illustrate that not only do flex fans flatten with RPM, they actually "flex forward" as the blades pull more air. Since your clearance was super close to your radiator, that forward flex has now causes the fan to eat up your radiator.
Mike posts this pic: (He points out that these rotors normally droop when the blades aren't spinning)

You, didn't consider that. But you blame Mike for not telling you just that same.

The moral to today's story......DONT BLAME ME! I DO ENOUGH STUPID SHT FOR ME!!!

Thats not exactly how it went, but pretty darn close. The fan that married the radiator came on the truck when I bought it. I just happened to spin the engine higher than it had apparently ever spun before... But the rest was your fault, because I was going to swap a T5 in it until you opened your mouth/keyboard. But thats all ancient history. Now we are about to watch @Boosted92LX turn two basket cases into one truck! All I can say is, a 351W with an electronically controlled 4R70W was a fun street set up! DOOOO IT!

PS, leave the body on the rust truck alone as far as exterior, just make it structurally sound and run like mad. It looks cool as is!

I am hoping to use front fenders and parts of the grill from the rusty truck. New ones cost a FORTUNE. There is quite a few rust holes in them, but the metal on this baby is so thick, I don't think I'll have any trouble welding patches in. At this point I'm trying to decide if i want to rent a big diesel compressor and blaster or if the acid will take the rust off.. Any input, @madmike1157 @Davedacarpainter ???

The plates on this one say '63. That's when it was parked. She's going to donate her rear axle, steering column, box and other steering gear, and as stated, salvageable ftont clip parts. What's left will most likely be rat rod matl. i would try to start with this one, but it's really rotten. Floors are gone, most everything tha is supposed to move won't.. I need to get my acetylene torch rigged up.

Sandblasting is not advisable despite the thickness. Despite the crown in the fenders sandblasting that much rust off will create a lot of heat. Heat creates distortion and warped metal. ( can you imagine trying to straighten one of those fenders ?)

The muriatuc acid may take complete immersion to do the job there, so probably not a good solution either.

Would I still try it? Of course I would.
