Nah, not abandoning that one at all. I can scab sheet metal in the floors and make that cab the rat rod..and something like that... It's ok to use a hodge podge of parts in. The goal here is one slick classic pick up, one mad max. Mad max gets the cab with the bullet holes.

That is just damned sexy right there. Sure, I'd straighten the bumper and make everything solid but hell.... I'd preserve and protect that rust layer.
You'd be able to 'feel' that beast in your rear view mirror.

@Davedacarpainter id really like to know how you would fix the rusty finish on this truck?
Soda blasting, period. There are other media that could be possibly be used but wouldn't be as thorough, crushed walnut/pecan shells. It would take a LOT of those media to get the job done. I would even sand the panels down with 80 grit and a DA sander prior to the blasting to speed up the blasting time expenditure (and monetary expenditure).
Then coat right after with an acid etch primer/phosphoric acid coating. Then body work, primer, paint, etc....
Except the frame and bumpers, thick metal stuff that won't warp. Sand blast those, much quicker and more thorough with a silica media.

What's hurting me is, the rusty truck isn't in good enough shape I don't think to use as is. There's not enough structure left in the hood, and the bottom of the cab is gone. I like shiny paint... But i like the "as is" look like Noobz and the others pointed out. Very torn on what to do. Maybe we should vote.
Oh, btw.. I can't find repop steel front fenders. Just glass, and they are 5-600 each. So, we have one set of fronts to patch up.
