side scoops install problem

i just got my side scoops off ebay and i did some test fitting.

there really ****ty. the edges of the opening aren't even touching the quarter pannel. i'm pretty disapointed.

there going to need some modifying to work. there fiberglass so would a heat gun be able to help? i'll post some pics of them when i can.

does anybody have any really good pics up close of theres installed?

how did the inside look where you put the double sided tape? is there a lip on the outside to put it on or just on the scoop it self.

I have one of mine off right now. Ill take some pics for you.

I cant get the back part to stick on right. I need to heat gun it. Its not bad, so Ill take care of it when I get the whole car painted.

lol I love how you can see every single imperfection with the camera.

They are made at an angle so the scoop actually fits like "inside" the stock scoop area.

And these are ABC scoops, from what I can tell, all brands differ some.

If you look carefully at the last two pics, you can see that there is a little lip that pretty much tells you where to put the tape.

I'm probably going to stick them on with epoxy resine/fibreglass filler when I do mine next year, but I'll be painting the whole car as well, so I'll be able to fill-in the gaps and sand everything down smooth so they look like they're part of the panel. I guess you can make them fit as best you can for now and if you ever decide to paint your car in the futur you could close-up the gaps with filler then.

You are going to have to modify them some if you mold them into the body. You will have to sand the edges so they will flow to the body better.

How much did you pay for them off Ebay? Thats not the first choice Id go to for body parts for Stangs.

And all the ones Ive seen on eBay say that they are made to be molded into the body, not taped on. Did you get those on accident?

there only side scoops. if it was something bigger like a hood or bumper thats a different story.

heres some really crappy pics i took. Its extremely hot outside for me to tinker with it for now. its weird how it was made to fit. i think i'm gonna have to make it fit somehow.

Interesting...I have ABCs too but they are very old and I don't think they are as refined as Green GT's. I didn't put them on b/c I thought they stuck out too far. I'll probably do a bumper/scoops/ and full auto paint job in a year and I'm going to have them cut down and molded to the body...which brings me to your scoops..since they don't have a lip on them they look like they were made to be molded and not connected with adhesives..sorry.

Those are meant to be molded to the body. Id either send them back or practice your fiberglass work and make some lips on it like mine.

Ill get a closeup of the other one later.

well i sent an email to the ebay seller and he told me all of his customers use double sided tape on them the way they are. he said if i wanted to return it, i would get my money back. considering how much i paid (and will pay) for shipping theres no point.

my brother who does autobody took a look at them. he said we can make them work. a little trimming and make some tabs so they stick using 3m tape and he's going to pain them along with my new spoiler and rear bumper.

Yea you could make them work. Get him to make some tabs or a lip around the whole thing and use some tape on that. Just make sure they fit right before you paint them. I have to heat mine up and shape them right and Im pretty sure the paint will get messed up in the process.
