Size of threads in smog holes in rear of E7s?

What are the size of the treads in the smog holes in the rear of the E7 heads? And how long does the bolt need to be just to screw in far enough to seal them up? Thanks.

they are the same size as a spark plug thread. autolite 25's worked in mine.

looked everywhere, cant find the bolts. 14mm x 1.25 is what they said. if you find some, ill pay you to ship me 2 as well.

They sell thermactor plugs which "plug" up the hole where the smog equipment goes (the same thing works for the front of you heads...you can get them at a Ford Dealership - part # F4ZZ-6E086-A or you can buy some from Summitracing - part # TFS-51400265...they work in the front of your heads and back of your heads and are meant for blocking the smog pump holes and letting your alternator and powersteering (on front of motor) bolts turn into your heads...

They are cheap and run anywhere from $2-8 bucks a piece...depending on where you get them...

It also provides for a much cleaner installation...

jesus christ. i bookmarked that when i saw you mention it awhile ago.

dont have a credit card so i cant get them from summit, even went to autozone and some places to check. never thought of ford

I have seen those. But they look like it takes a screw driver to screw them in. How difficult is it to get a short screw driver to install them when the engine in the car?

Well as long as your heads have a clean "screwing" passage they can be done by hand...but most likely you will need something like a screwdriver to put them in...you don't actually have to have the screwdriver above the T-plugs to screw them in...just do it from an angle...

Antiseize might help them slide in better...it shouldn't be a problem for you...

no you don't need a screwdriver.

they are a threaded insert...you can put a bolt into them and run them in w/ a ratchet. you don't need the insert (only on the front of the head sfor acc's)...so just leave the bolt in them.

another rig-job is to reverse the y pipe pieces..(if you cut them off w/ a hack saw)...left side to the right etc. ???

and re-bolt them back up...but the thermactor plugs are about 2-3 bucks each...so just do it right.

i tried doing that by cutting the pieces off and plugging them.

i kept getting air leaks though around them. so i went to the spark plugs, which are working fine now.

I personally don't like the fact of a spark plug on the back of my engine when they are meant to be in the spark plug holes...so I decided to spend a couple bucks on the plugs...

The size of the thread is 5/8"-11. You can buy plugs at a hardware store, the only difference between them and the Ford parts, is that the inside of the plug isn't threaded. They have a hex for an allen wrench instead. This will not be a problem in the rear of the heads. The only time this is an issue is if you need to plug the front of the head and need the threaded hole. They are alot cheaper than Ford or Trick Flow, about $.75 each. As a side note, you will probably need to run a tap in before they will go in. The carbon can really build up on those threads. Why half ass it and use spark plugs?

well if you read my posts, i said i couldnt find anything to work. i can plug it with bolts i dont have can i?

it was either halfass it with plugs or leave them open. which would you choose?

Actually, I believe that was directed at me, about half assing it. Apparently you didn't try too hard to find the right thread bolt because a 5/8-11 bolt or plug can be found at any hardware store. They are not the same thread as a spark plug. I would never leave it open, I would do it right the first time, or just a temp fix if nothing else.
