I've been putting off an introductory thread :p

I sold the GTI the same week my daughter was born (week of 10/19) to a kid that drove down to get it and I found the Mach a few days later. Had my father check it out for me since he lives in the same city that the car was and I drove up to buy it the next day.

I'm pretty happy w/the deal -- got it for almost $2k under blue book and it came with a few mods, namely:

- Mac prochamber + Mac catback, Mac differential cover
- sub frame connectors, upper/lower control arms
- MGW shifter
- Steed clutch adjustment
- CAI, shaker spacer

My buddy James (xXFaceyourfear on here) had an extra pair of sportlines for the front so we threw those in this past Saturday and it looks a lot better -- not so 4x4 now.

Overall, it's in great, near perfect shape inside and out. Mechanically, the rear-end will definitely need to be rebuilt. There are shavings in the diff oil and the gears whine like my newborn daughter :D. Judging by the Mac diff cover, I'm sure it had non-stock gears at some time, and it doesn't feel like it's geared now, so I'm sure the stockers were put back in a while back. No big deal, though -- going to have a buddy who's ASE certified/Perf shop owner put the new stuff in for me.

Plans are finish up the drop until I get a full k-member/coilover/tubular a-arm swap, 03 Cobra side skirts, 99/01 Cobra front bumper, 18x9/18x10 deep dish FR500's, and a shot of n2o until I can do a power-adder of some sort (shooting for a turbo!!)

On to the pics!

thanks, Shaun! never thought I'd get another yellow car after the GTI, but this car is great. the yellow is nice and bright, and the black accents go well against it.

Matt, the DOHCs sound !! honestly my favorite sounding engine, ever. a buddy has the same exhaust set-up I do now and I always envied the way it sounded.

thanks, all, I appreciate the kind words.

Chris: the GTI was a great little car. loved the turbo, 6 speed, interior, handling, and stance after the drop springs and wheel spacers, but the parts and maintenance was just too much for me to worry about/spend. mainly, though, I really missed being in a stang.

Jimmy Dean Dong Ding Dang: hahaha yeah, man -- glad the time finally came. was getting impatient w/selling the VW.

Adam: so I've heard! my buddy that owns a performance/dyno shop was telling me the same thing. can't wait till he can do some work on it.

here's the inspiration for what I'd like to do to the outside:

that's MachSp33d from SVTP. love the lower profile and smooth look of the Cobra side skirts. 99/01 Cobra front looks great on it, too, especially w/the chin spoiler.

i hear ya on this ... my wife has a 2000 cabrio and just to get the hydraulic pump for the convertible top replaced is like $1600. it's freaking ridiculous

she is putting the top up and down manually now :nice: :nonono:

and they wanted to charge me $50 just to clear the codes.

wtf?

but welcome back into the fold and congrats on the baby. my oldest "baby" is 19 now and in college and his little sister is a junior in high school. yep, i'm an old fart

FINALLY!

And man thats 2 strikes, didnt know you had a baby girl on the way! Congrats! Whats her name? How big was she at birth? My son will be 10 months in 2 weeks....time flys by man, HANG ON!

And the mach looks amazing. Yellow is one of my favorite colors....post more pics!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Chris, not surprising. What gets to me is that the cars we get in the states, most are made in Mexico/South America -- yet the parts cost as if we're buying directly from Germany! I guess some we have to -- that's another thing, parts availability. I noticed a small coolant leak and traced it to the coolant flange that comes out of the header. Couldn't find it locally at all -- not at any of the parts stores, not even the stealership, and I had to order online. Car was down for a week and a half.

Nate: yeah man! no worries, I'm usually very inhibited and don't tell unless asked. we named her (get ready) Andrea Emma Lucia Garcia-Mijares. Andrew is my middle name, so we thought it'd be nice. Emma Lucia was my wife's first choice, so we tacked it on, too. Garcia-Mijares is our last names combined. She was 7lbs, 4oz and had to stay in the NICU for a week because of meconium -- guess she was in the oven a few days too long, but after some antibiotics, she's great now. Poor girl looks like me:

Dan: thanks man! I'm excited about what it'll look like -- hot, as you can see from the pic. Should move pretty well, too.

Congrats on both the new additions Paul! Cute kid, and awesome car. I knew it was only a matter of time before you got rid of the dub. They are nice cars, but god are they costly to repair. All of my good friends I grew up with had VW's and after they modded them, and broke them, they sold them because they were too much to fix...then the bought Mustangs :rlaugh:

Good luck with everything!
