Some ?'s about running staggered rims.

Hey guys I just purchased some 17x9 and 17x10.5 FR500 rims from American Muscle. One of my stock rims are bent causing the car to shake when I brake hard. I know its the rims and not the rotors because the guys at Discount Tire found the bend in the rim, so I couldn't pass up getting all 4 rims new for 459 bucks.
I noticed on the tire recommendations on American Muscle are that they recommend a certain tire size for the fronts and back, I know the 315's are needed in the rear but I noticed that 275 size tires are recommended up front. Now I have a pair of fairly new NT555 245/45 tires and I was going to reuse them on the new front rims, but I see a lot ppl on the forums and other forums running 275's up front... Will the car look goofy with 245/45 tires up front the 315's in the rear? Is there a reason why ppl go with 275 size tires? I just don't want to get the rims and be disappointed in the 245/45's up front.

Also I plan on lowering the car with the H&R lowering springs and reuse the stock isolators before I put the rims on the car to kill the ridiculous 4x4 height... Plus I have to buy the rear tires, before I can put the rims on too haha. I'm such a broke mofo...

A 245 tire is going to look goofy on a 17x9 wheel. I was in the same situation you are in when I bought my new wheels and had 255's up front. It doesnt fill out the wheel, and it looks like poo in my opinion. If you can afford to buy new tires I say go for it, but if you can't... we'll you cant.

Alrighty then, looks like I wont have the rims on for a while lol. Guess they will be sitting in my room taunting me...

I have 18x9 fronts and run a 245/40/18 and they look fine. Steeda is right though, a 245 on a 17x9 wheel just won't look right.

What about posting the tires on a local forum/Craigslist to see if you get a taker? And yes, a 245 would not look right on a 17x9 wheel.

I did some searching *I know I should have done this before creating the thread* and found that a few ppl have run 245/45 tires on the 17x9 rim without any problems. They do say it does look rather odd but not to bad... At least im not running 275's on the 17x10.5 like someone I know right now... So I was thinking about just putting the 245/45 on there to see how they look, if I dont like em Ill take them off, if they look ok I can live with it for a while.

I would have loved to have gotten 18's but tire prices are insane! Ill just have to save my money for a while, probably be the end of April when I get everything squared away. Going to college and working part time so it takes a while to save up..

Im most likely going to do that after I get the FR500's on, would yall think 150 for both would be reasonalbe with only 3,000 miles on them?

I didn't think tire prices were that bad... I got a new pair of 285/35/18's for only $300 and I am good friends with the general manager of a local Firestone so they were mounted and balanced for only $30. $330 for a pair of new tires isn't bad IMO. Christ, it costs us like $1000 for new tires on the wife's charger, and cost me $600 for tires on the New Yorker.

Hell your 17" 315 rear tires will cost more than my 285 rear tires. The difference between a 275 17" tire and a 275 18" tire is not much. Also, AM doesn't sell Sumitomo's in the 275 17" size, but they do in the 275 18" size. I know Sumitomo's aren't the best tire, but they work quite well for what I use my car for... cruising

I also have my stock 17x8's that I run Nitto's on for auto-x.

300 dollars for two 18in tires isnt bad. What I really meant instead of the tires its the 18in rims that would be pricey compared to the 17in rims lol sorry. I appreciate y'alls help. I should have researched this better but I felt at the moment getting all 4 for $459 was a great deal, and seeing the thread of Burning Rubbers Mustang sold me on the staggered setup of FR500's with 17in rims...

After trolling the internet, I found that a lot of ppl complain about how the 275 tires track on the ruts in the road, how heavy they make the steering feel and they rub sometimes on a lowered car... So I think I'm just going to get some 255/40 and 315/35 Nitto tires.

I drive a fair ammount of highway and 275's track like crazy! I sorta wish I had 255's on my fronts

It's not the best pic but if you look at the front wheel where it meets the tire you can kinda see how it sticks out a little bit...and yes I know the car is dirty

275's tracked pretty bad with my old setup on 17's but the 18's now don't seem to track at all. Not sure why but that's how it seems.

I feel like a 265 fits nicely on a 9 inch wheel, that what size will be replacing my fronts when the time comes.

Agreed. 275s rub the crap out of my fender wells. 265s are perfect. 245s are too small for a 9" rim IMO.

I Finally got mine on today. Self note, if I ever buy another used car make sure I get the lock key for the lugs. I went with staggered fr500's with 315 and 275 nitto's. I haven't drove it or taken pic's putting springs on sat. I will say I personaly feel the 275's look a bit too wide on the front. Overall other than the thing looking jacked up, I love the look, just kinda wished I went with the 255's.

I always thought the 265's on the front of my Cobra (18X9's) looked a little too small even though it was lowered. When I put the new wheels and tires on it I had 275's (also 18X9's) up front and they looked a lot better IMO.

I feel like a 265 on a 18x9 is almost perfectly square, but isnt a 275 around the limit you wanna put on a 9 inch wheel? On a different note, there is a kid with an Audi that lives in my neighborhood, lowered to hell, he was rolling his fenders (well attempting to) with an ice scraper the other day, and he runs a 215 on a 9.5" wide wheel! Now that looks like !
