Don't know if it's been posted yet, but I was reading the latest Motor Trend about the (Enemy) newest Camaro coming out.

One of GM's Chief Engineer's, Al Oppenheiser, said, "We stopped bringing Mustangs to our development rides because they were so far behind us in our rearview mirror." "It was'nt even worth taking them anymore."

This cocky dribble sure does one thing-Fan the flames of competition. I'm glad the new Camaro is here. It's ugly to me, will be expensive, and the Stang will still sell circles around it.

To me the Challenger is a better ride. It appeals to me for doing retro right, and the Camaro looks like it's trying too hard.

But back to my original thought. When these cars hit the street, there will be lines of Stangs with Vortech's and turbo systems making Camaro owners ask why they paid so much to get beat again.GT500's and Terminators will be all over this thing. If the GM guy is talking about stocker Stangs to their LS engines then sure, you are beating them, but how many GT500 's were in this test process?

What are your comments about the new Camaro, looks and performance wise, and how do you feel about the smack being run?

Can we have some links here, people? I'd like to gather more information.

Right off the bat, I don't even care for the retro-craze to start with. But, like always, the Mustang led the revolution by hitting the nail on the head, and the Challenger and Camaro are playing catch-up. I'm thinking it might be a too-little-loo-late thing, especially with gas prices and the state of the economy. Of course, I do welcome the competition and the things it will do for production Mustangs. I just can't wait to see what the next generation Mustang will look like!

whats interesting to me is that chevy and dodge are leaving ford on top. Neither have anything that can compete with the GT500. the 3v GTs, sure, the SRT 8s and SSs will be faster. But neither have anyhting in the 500 hp range.

Very interesting to me considering chevy never ever likes to come second. If ford comes out with something better, they just throw the next best corvette engine in the camaros and claim it makes 10 hp less. Thats what gets me the most about chevy. Every single performance car they make is a 9/10ths corvette, held back only by the chassis. The engine is the same, the tranny is the same, theyre rwd, etc. Lame.

I think it's freakin' GREAT!

The Mustang has NOT been pushed in a LONG time and as I watch prices rise through the $30k's I'm glad to see it now has some competition.

The Challenger was a good start, but too heavy and no six speed manual (yet). But...all of them are too heavy right now.

400+ hp, 52/48 weight distribution, IRS, and a 6-speed...and that is for the "regular, run of the mill" V8 SS Camaro. This thing is matching (or coming DAMN close to) the new BMW M3 (V8) lap times at the Nurburgring. The Mustang IS way behind (in the rear view mirror of) this car.

It should NOT require $50k+ to match that performance (Shelby-somethings, GT500's, Terminators, etc.).

And of course the GM guy is comparing "apples to apples" and not their standard V8 model vs. Ford's high-end exclusive models. That IS the competition. Ford can put their Shelby or GT500 into the mix...and then GM will release the Z28 option that will thoroughly trounce that as well.

And these lines of Mustangs with supercharges and turbos waiting to beat these Camaros...when all is said and done, with the mods done to the Mustangs to simply keep up with the Camaro, the price difference isn't as much as you'd think.

Wait a year or two and there will be PLENTY of aftermarket parts for the Camaro - you know how a cam can perk up an LS1.

I HOPE this pushes the Mustang in to much better peformance levels.

I think both the new Camaro and Challenger will be a swift kick in the arse for Ford to give the Mustang a more powerful engine for under $30,000. The Challenger R/T has a 5.7L Hemi for under $30,000 that puts out 370hp and 390tq.

But back to my original thought. When these cars hit the street, there will be lines of Stangs with Vortech's and turbo systems making Camaro owners ask why they paid so much to get beat again.

Isn't that just a repeat of 93-02??

GM owners paid more...but the Mustang needs a power adder just to compete :(

Exactly, I love the fact everyone is saying oh man ford is still on top with the gt500! WRONG, the car has a supercharger also. Make it fair and throw a blower on the challenger or camaro, thinking that pig gt500 will be left in the dust. Yes they are nice but are they the best? Hell no. As usual we lose. LSX rules at the moment. Have fun replying to that one! :nice:

The GT500 KR goes 11.58 @122 on mickey streets bone stock. Supercharger or not I think thats pretty ridiculous. And thats only a 331 cubic inch engine. The LS is 346 and up. I think anyway of getting power is fair game whether its turbo, supercharged, or nitrous. What ever makes it go faster.

Chevys answer has always been just throw a bigger motor in it. Works for some people but obviously not enough. THey were always outsold by the "slower" mustang and eventually it caused them to be cancelled. Now that the Mustang hit the retro market, they figure if they go retro and throw a bigger motor in it theyll be back in the saddle. I bet they werent counting on 4 dollar gas prices when they came up with their bright ideas. They need cars available to the masses to starting moving product. 40K isnt gonna get too many nods except for rich little brats or older guys going through their midlife crisis. Mustang is made to appeal to a broad crowd. I see more and more older couples out driving new stang GTs, most of them dont want a 6 liter motor making 400 horsepower and drinking gas like its going out of style. As for the challenger, the last time a challenger was launched it blew up minutes after takeoff. I hope the same happens here.

I think a stock c6 z06 going 10's and run circles around a gt500 is pretty crazy myself. I never said adding a supercharger or whatnot wasen't fair game thats for sure. But what happens when you take the blower off the gt500 or a 03/04 cobra? Hope there isn't any LS1's around thats for sure. Love those lower ends that last to 1000 rwhp too! Gotta stop talking about it, might have to buy a mullet car or something.

:rlaugh: make it fair and add 100 cubic inches to the mustang.

HAHA replying to a post that doesn’t compare anything fairly.

Dude do you realize that the Challenger weighs 4100-4200lbs which is more than the GT500 and the new Camaro is going to be right in line with the GT500 in weight also? Not to mention its a 5.4 against a 6.1 and 6.3 add to it that a GT500 has sooo much room to grow with very little money needing to be thrown at it.

A SRT8 Challenger is a low 13sec car bone stock a Shelby is a low-mid 12.

The LSX motor rules because its in a Vette that weighs half the weight of a GT500 and is much more aerodynamic. Lets see how the all mighty LS3 runs when its in the Camaro. My guess is it will be a low 13sec car at close to the same price of a Shelby just like the SRT8 Challenger.

You might want to get your facts straight before you start talking sh**.

Good job comparing apples to oranges. Lets see $70K two seater sports car vs $45k Pony Car.

Who gives a sh** if the car has a blower. What happens when Chevy doesn’t have to use a motor that runs high compression or isn’t a 5.7-6.3 motor. Lets see what they do with a 4.6L or a 5.4L without running 10.7+:1 CR.
