My buddy just picked up a 70 sports roof....but its missing some vital sheet metal that we cant seem to find in the aftermarket. Does anyone reproduce the steel dash for any year mustang? or are we going to have to go to the junk yard? thanks guys
I'm assuming you're talking about the lower dash... it's a pretty common piece, so don't pay a bunch for one. If you don't need the a/c version, you can almost get 'em for free if you find someone who has swapped to the a/c version (like me). In fact, I'll probably need to get rid of my old one soon, but by the time you pay shipping you'd do better to find one locally.
yes the lower dash where the guages, glove box, and switches are located. This car is not planning on having ac.......Buddha....Ill send you a pm if our junk yard adventures are a dead end. I did look everywhere. NPD which seems to have the largest selection of reproduction and NOS sheetmetal had nothing. 10 bucks says they start reproducing them immediately after the purchase. (happens with almost everything doesnt it, most notable would be the painless wiring harness ) thanks guys
So you need the guage pods too? Can't help with those since I don't have any spares. If you shop arround, regular non-woodgrain non-tach guage pods/passenger panels are pretty inexpensive. But the tach guage pod and passenger side panel with the clock (especially the Mach 1 style woodgrain style) will be pricey. Also keep in mind the cost o a new printed-circuit board is around $90 if you need one.

Yes the entire interior is gone... No wiring harness, but him and I think that a universal painless kit should do the trick. He is planning on making it a weekend warrior. Rare street use, alot of racing....A custom sheetmetal dash was put in the air, but I think he wants to look for a decent junk yard peice.
There is a junkyard in Phoenix called mustang motor works (http://mustangmotorworks.com/index.php). They might have a few junk '70 mustangs with all of the dash parts. The place tends to be a little expensive on some things and really cheap in others. You may also want to try desert valley auto parts (www.dvap.com) if the other place is too much. Just remember, the ignition was moved in '70 so the lower dash is different than a '69.

In that light, I imagine he'll probably just want to do an aftermarket gauge setup from Autometer or the like, right? Then you may be able to get the original style guage pods cheap and add the gauges, or you can go with an aftermarket gauge cluster kit from JME:
Ive been to DVAP numerous times. In fact he bought his 351 block (for his 408w stroker) there. Ya I know he wants to stick with a stock theme for the interior as of now, but not strict concours. That aftermarket cluster is nice....Thanks for all the help.
