Stick with the GT or get an 01 Cobra?

A friend of mine has offered me his 2001 Cobra (basically stock) with 55,000 miles on the clock for $14K. I've driven it and obviously the horse power over my GT is intoxicating and tempting. Personally, I think that it's a steal. I believe that I could satify the montly payments if I were to take out a loan; but it's debt. I'd probably stay away from any major mods except for a blower in the future. What do you all think of the 01's?

if the payments are gonna stress you out, then dont do it, plus you gotta think of insurance too, if your gt is paid for now, then you only have to pay liability, but for the cobra, since your gonna finance it, if im right, u need full coverage, i say, stick wit the gt, cars come and go man, and there will be better ones out there for sure even a year from now.

I figured that I'd do like a 48 month payment plan. I know I'm losing money, but I figure that you only live once. I make around a grand a month as a grad. assistant and tuition and such is free; so I do have a bit of free cash floating around. Hell, I'm already $58K in the hole, as I paid for my first 4 years of college myself; whats $14K more?:D My GT isn't a pile, but it does have 119K on it (runs well) and needs some new paint. I could probably sell it for $4500-$5500 to knock the total off. I guess I'm never going to be satisfied with it unless I blow it, but that would probably mean a new motor as well. I just don't know if I wanna pour more cash into it?

Since you have a 96-98GT, the jump to an 01 cobra would be nice. However....if your GT is paid off, I would say wait until a good 03/04 Cobra comes around because in the long run you will be more happy that you have that over an 01. Plus consider how much you paid for the GT against 14,000. If it's considerably less, take 1K or 2K of that, put some mods on your GT...be satisfied with that and wait until you can get what you REALLY would like and not just because this cobra is available.

I couldnt say it any better. But dont do what anyone tells you, use our opinions to help you make your decision.

The '01 isnt a bad deal for the mileage but I'm prolly gonna hold onto my GT til the 03/04 Termi's hit the 18k range in a year or two. Or if I get a nice cash offer on it.

But its your decision man, always keep your mind open to different cars, your in school and sound like you will be able to afford it in the long run...

Good Luck!

Thanks for the opinions guys. I'm still mulling it over, but I'll let everyone know what I decide to do sometime tomorrow. Still trying to get the timing worked out in my GT; timing cover removal is a hoot and a hollar!:bang:

man i say go for it, I had many 98 GT's and loved them then one day i just wanted to go to a newer body style, I got a 01 GT, OMG that was the best decision that i have ever made. All the little stuff i didnt have to take care of anymore. Since your going to a cobra I bet it will feel 10X better. I say go for it, we only go around once so live in the moment.:nice:

The offer was tempting, but like some of you stated above, I believe that I'll wait things out and get an 03' Cobra in the future. I bought this car outright for $5900 2 years ago, so no use going into more debt, atleast right now. As we all know, mods=money and I don't even want to fathom what I've put into it- but I made it unique and I made it mine. So I think I'll hold onto it for a few more years and see what happens. Thanks again everyone!
