Stockish 1/8th mile times for a 96 GT 5speed??

Im wondering what kinda 1/8th miles times i could run with my 96 GT 5speed... It stock other than a CAI and AT catback.. But it feels very strong for a 4.6... My friend has a 96 5speed with OR-H Headers and CAI and mine spanks his like a little girl... I've drove alot of 4.6 stangs when looking for mine and it is by far the strongest 96/98 i've ever drove... It feels more like my buddys 99 power wise.. I dunno if its just because it was stock and owned by a girl when i bought it or what... Friend of mine has a 89 5.0 with quite a bit done to it he runs high 8's in the 1/8th and i can hang with him.. he jumps about 2 cars off the line on my but I never loose any more ground than that and he has 4.10's... What is typical of these with my mods?? the CAI really seemed to bring things alive but it wasnt like redicoulus.... I'm guessing from what it feels and comparing to my thunderbird (280/300 rwhp-ish but 4200lbs 9.01 with low boost....) I think it would break into the high 8's if lot a very low 9...

Well the track and DA have lots to do with times, but I don't see you cracking into the 8s as the car sits. It's usually only around $20 to run a car at the track so that's the only SOLID way to tell what the car is capable of, though don't be too upset with a 9.4 or anything like that

1/8th mile there is no way u are going to run 8s. unless u put more work into that thing. for you to grab 8s u would need some gears exhaust work, tuning, more intake stuff, drag radials, and possibly some of the PI stuff. the gears are whats really going to help. my guess is u are going to run mid to high 9s.

and speaking of ur buddys 5.0. if he runs high 8s and beats u buy about 2 cars do u guys race exactly an 1/8th of a mile cause if he jumps that hard on ya off the line chances are he is going to slowly keep pulling. and this is only an 1/8th mile so 2 car lengths will be probably about .3 seconds because the speeds are slower. my first time to the track with my stang i had the catback and intake stuff on it and got a 9.4 as a best with a 60' of a 2.2.

the stock 1/4 times on ur car are around a 14.9 to 15.2 from what i have seen and that would be anywhere from a 9.6 to about a 9.7 1/8th mile.

just make sure when u go u dont expect 8s because its more than likely not going to happen unless u launch on slicks and do like a 5k clutch dump and ur axle survives lol. good luck man

9.18 with 3.73's, no spare tire, jack, or passenger seat. So about 80 pounds lighter than stock.

stones, sp5000's. They are an all weather/season tire, but honestly, after using many brands, they hook very well and have a great tread life. My buddy had an 01 with the sp8000's and there was no comparison in traction.

However, if you compare that 275/40 tire to most other 275/40's, you will see that the run quite narrow. Im not sure on the exact measurement though. The tread pattern is also not the best looking. But overall, its a great tire. I strongly believe that the are the best cheap-medium range priced tire on the market.

Thats what the PI, ls1 boys said too. The track is outside college station, it was nice putting down on the modded PI kids back in college.

your going to need a 13.9 car to get a 8second 1/8th. My car's barely got a 13.97 capability with perfect conditions with reduced weight - so im thinking not.

my bad, had a few tonight....

They are dunlop, dont know why I was saying bridgestone. Not sure on the price. I havent bought 17 inch rubber in 5 years. For my tires, I used to always print out the best price I found on the net, take it in to discount tires, and have them match it.

my car is stock except for an offroad mid pipe and kn. I would guess that I could pull a 9.5-9.6 the way it sits now... I'm pretty sure the car has 2.73 gears, or maybe the 3.08's, but its slow.

5 speed? If it seems EXTREMELY bad then you likely have the 2.73s The automatics were stuck with the 3.08s which weren't all that bad but the 3.73s were a nice upgrade.

I recall you stating you've been busy and will be for quite some time with the new gym, though maybe on a friday night or sunday evening we can hit up HRP and have a NPI showdown

ummm. yes! Sounds like a great idea, let me get a gear in the car first! One of my coaches often goes to Houston Motorsports park for the 1/8. I heard traction is pretty good out there. BTW, did you know that Lone Star in Sealy has converted into a 1/4 strip from an 1/8?

I've ran only twice out at HMP and the traction just depends. The only complaint is that the water is only a FEW feet from the actual staging area. Even just to do a very mild spin to get the water off, you have to brake quickly right afterwards. The FWD cars drag the water on the staging area

HRP has been really good the last few times I have been out there, sometimes maybe even too sticky Car sounds like it's on velcro most of the track.

I heard the Lonestar isn't too bad of a place now, that the new owner (Hennessey) really turned the place around. I haven't been out there however, since I am about 25 mins from HRP and about the same from HMP.

Car feels alot faster than my supercoupe but the wieght diffrence might be a key factory here... The 5.0 i was talking about jumped me out of the hole and never got more than 2 cars ahead of me up to about 100mph or so when we let off..
