Suggested Mods?

Hi,

I own a 2006 Mustang GT convertible that I've had for
about 8 months and would like to do a few minor mods
to; it has about 2000 miles.

I'd like to:

- Add a C&L air intake with the diablosport predator tune.
- Add a Strange Development strut tower brace.

Any other suggestions or comments on these mods? Wouldn't
mind doing an upgrade to the factory mufflers either. I don't
want to go overboard, but want a little more kick!

Sounds like a good path. I'd recommend Flowmasters, they give a nice rumble and improved sound without being too loud. Others will have recommendations obviously. It'll be up to you to listen to some of the samples out there and see what you like.

Outside of that a C&L will be a nice addition for a few extra ponies.
 
I highly recommend the Xcal2 programmer over the preditor.
It does a much better job of getting rid of the throttle lag especially if you have an auto.

Also recommend tunes by Bamachips.com, I have his basic 87 octane tune and the difference was night and day.

I, also highly recommend the SCT X-CAL II, over the Diablosport Preadator..Regardles, of which CAI you decide on..The X-CAL II is a much better, all around tuner and if you're concerned, with data logging..You can connect any USB cable to you're PC, where on the other hand..you cannot use a USB with the Predator, it requires the more expensive 9 pin adaptor cable..And most of all, You just can't beat the SCT tech support dept. You never have to wait very long, to speak to a represenative and unlike Diablosport's tech support, they don't become bored whenever a customer needs, their questions and concerns resolved, whether it takes 5 minutes or up to an hour..They have a very strong belief, in that their customers always come first..And that's what I like most about their company..:D

Whenever, you take you're vehicle in for servicing, regardless if it's for warranty service or even as little as an oil change..You should always reflash back to stock, and here's why...In the event, that you're factory computer should need updated..Your dealer, will automatically update you're factory PCM files, and there's always the possibility, they may do so, without you're consent..And if and when it does, not only will you're custom tune be gone, but your tuner will no longer be able to read, your computer's stock tune, because the tuner still has the old files, in it's memory, instead of the new updated files, your dealer just installed.. So you really need to make sure, that you always reflash back to stock first, before taking you're vehicle in for servicing..As for you're warranty being voided, Ford has to prove, that you're aftermarket parts, were responsible for causing, any of the warranted parts to fail, otherwise Ford cannot legally, void your factory warranty..However, if you're concerned about your dealer, giving you a ruff time..Just un-install your JLT intake and then, re-install your factory airbox, before taking your car in...Anyway, good luck to you..
 
I'd suggust Tunableinduction.com's intake. About $100 less than others with the highest power range and an SCT tuner. I've had C&L before and love this piece. Take a look at their website for referances from all the big stang magazines. Maybe a Corsa exhaust. Sound and about 10hp. Check out their website or google it to see a dyno chart. Only "straight through" exhausts are seeing any seroius power gains.

I plan on going with the 93 octane tune. Will the tunes
they send work right of of the box or will I need to
find a shop to help me?

Yes..both will make a very noticeable difference, and yes, the tunes will also work, right out of the box, just follow the step by step, on screen guide..If in the event, you feel you need help..You can always call, the SCT tech support line, or call the dealer, who sold you, your cold air intake, and X CAL II..
 
The canned tunes will work but you will get the best results from a custom tune. Lots of places will send you a tune and some may be better than others but the fact remains, if the guy didn't have your car on a dyno then your tune is "canned". Dallas Mustang tweaked an additional 17 HP and 24lbs/ft out of my JLT2 and SCT canned tune combo. As always, There's no substitute for spending the cash and doing it right.
 
In my exprience over the last year , I have never reflashed back to stock when i had the C&L intake and tune. Dealer had no problem with it.
I recommend talking to your dealer and finding out if they will have a problem BEFORE doing any changes. I did and my dealer said as long as I didnt touch the cats they would honor the warranty.

Well in your case, you're very fortunate, to have a dealer who doesn't have a problem, concerning modifications..However, most dealerships do..Especially when it concerns, reflashing the computer (PCM) However, in the event that your computer's PCM files, need updating by you're dealership..I highly recommend, that you reflash back to stock, before your dealer does any PCM updates, otherwise your going to end up, with a locked up tuner, that will no longer function..

happy with the fit and finish and a couple other things about it. I
decided to go with the Steeda cold air system because it uses
the stock inlet tube and looks a bit more OEM.

Hi, fastfox..I was just reading you're post, and was curious, as to why you weren't happy with the JLT CAI ?? Anyway, would you mind, explaning in more detail, concerning the fit and finish problems, and the couple of other things about it ?? I'd be real interested, in you're opinions..In fact, the JLT was one of the CAI systems, I'd been considering.. I'm also considering, the Demolet Tunable Induction, although It appears the Steeda CAI, is more than likely, going to be my final choice, as well.. :nice:

If I may sway your opinion go for the Demolet system. Not only does it perform as good as it looks but the owner and customer service is great even months after the sale. I trying to get him to design some more parts for our 05's! Just my $.02 but I can't think of anything that could have been done better in the tunable induction set up.:D
