Just purchased a bone stock 93 GT Hatchback with a manual tranny, I believe it's a t-5 but I'm not for sure (First Mustang or Ford I've Owned) I was planning on swaping to an auto but I don't know what tranny would be best as in an aod, aode, c6, or a c4, which ever one I end up with I plan on having it professionally built for the track, anyway which tranny would be my best bet, the car will still be mostly street driven with around a 3.55 gear and a 2400 stall, whats the differance between the trannies listed above, and other than the tranny, convertor, flywheel, and driveshaft is there anything else I wil need for a swap, will they bolt right up?

I just converted mine from AOD to T5. AOD=:nonono: , man what a boat anchor! I barely lifted that thing, and I think it gave me a hernia  . I got some AOD goodies for sale including the trans :D . Sorry for the shameless plug :nono: . I hope I won't get :ban: .

if you do swap to automatic, (which i would only recommend for a dedicated track car, only because stick is much more fun to drive on the street) put your flame suit on. regardless, it's ultimately your car and your call. i would not recommend an aod unless you really really need the overdrive. built up they are pretty solid, but i've heard of more out of the c4 than the aod. c6 is heavier than the c4 and can handle a lot more power, but that would only be for serious drag racing (close to 1000hp serious), and an aode would not benefit you at all, it was simply what was used in the newer SN95 stangs, and is comtrolled by the computer instead of hydraulic pressure.

good luck with your swap, i can imagine it will be more difficult or involved than the auto->manual swap, due to TV cable, shifter hookup, yadda yadda but search around there is probably a writeup around somewhere for it.

welcome to the boards :nice:

An auto can be as fast if not faster than a stick... But a 2400 stall, shift kitted auto wont be, compared to a well driven T5. As far as what you want, an AOD would be your best bet as it retains overdrive. There are a lot of guys with fast AOD cars, take a look and ask them!
