Im doing a T-5 to Tremec 3550 swap in my 89 LX. Ive never done this before and I need to know everything i need for the swap. Thus far, i just have the transmission and shifter. I also want to know if i can use my clutch (centerforce stage3 with 8K mi. on it) from my t-5 in with the tremec or do i have to get a new one? If anyone can help, Id appreciate it. And if anyone has any of the parts I need, let me know what you have with a price. Thank you.

I'm pretty sure you need a bellhousing and a auto crossmember or break the welds on the T-5 one and slide it foward. To the best of my knowledge you can use the same clutch and driveshaft on the 3550's but not the TKO's because of the different splines. Might be a good time to replace the clutch cable and quadrant with a trick piece if you haven't done so and have some miles on your car (I bought the UPR 3pc kit when I did my TKO swap).

You can use your existing clutch but you will need a different bellhousing

I belive you can use a SROD bellhousing (free-cheap depending on how crafty you are)

the clutch depends on which 3550 you have the TKO and TKO II I belive have 26 spline imput shafts and factory t5 stuff is 10. If you already have the trans, count them up and you will know (you could also look up the part number on the tag)

so theres nothing else i need besides the bellhousing?

Only if you plan on grinding/cutting off the welds of your current transmission mount/cross member.

It is also my experience that you may have to modify the hangers on your H-pipe with some bending and/or cutting since the mount will be further back.

get the cobra r bellhousing from jegs....thats what i did. also, the double hump crossmember from frpp was easy enough to get mine in. the clutch should be fine. while you got it all apart i would suggest putting on a new clutch cable and clutch adjustment kit....worth the effort as you will have to do it sooner or later....

heres the link for the bellhousing.

Sorry to steal your thread but one more question, what clutch should I get, I want better than stock but it would be mostly street w/ little strip driving. I had the King Cobra in my other car but the pedal was a little on the stiff side. I was thinking centerforce, but I can't find a good deal on them.
