Tensioner question

I've looked over the forum and couldn't find an answer to this.

I'm trying to make a spring loaded tensioner for an ATI P600B Procharger on an LT1 engine. I looked over the various tensioners and found the 86-93 5.0 unit was fairly close to the ATI piece.

I bought one from a parts house and can't figure out how it mounts to the engine. I've attached a front & rear shot of the piece I bought for reference.

How does this piece attach to the motor? Is there a special bolt or something that fits in the grooves on the rear of the tensioner? If so, is it available from the dealer?

actually, the piece that it mounts to on the motor is threaded to accept a regular bolts that runs through that tensioner. i'm not sure why thopening on the back is shaped like that. that little nipple slips into a hole and secures the tensioner from spinning after it's bolted down. hope i was some help to you.

That was helpful- I don't have a motor to look at for reference. As it turns out, the tensioner is pointing the wrong direction for where I want to mount it (look like a 1/2" bolt thru it will do the trick, though). I'll either have to find one with opposite tension or mount it below the blower.

Yeah, that one is a little weird looking.

Just 1 bolt right through the middle that threads into the accessory bracket on the motor. That little nub fits inside a hole and that's what keeps it from spinnin

on my car i deleted the power steering, AC, and smog to run a really short belt. i ended up needing to modify the tensionser so it pulled the opposite direction. there is a way to do that.

you take the tensioner apart by taking the black cover peice off. the spring inside fits in a little hole and you'll need to drill a new hole on the opposite side and fit the spring back in there. this might take a couple of tries to get the hole in the right place. you'll see once you play with it a little. the action of the spring will now work in the opposite direction it was designed to.

That was easy...

This has to be one of the easiest mods I'ver ever done . I drilled my hole 180 degrees opposite the other one for my application, and was able to use the ATI tensioner mounting hole & then filed a depression in the ATI slot for the nipple on the Ford tensioner... I was even able to trim the end of the tensioner down & use the ATI tensioner pulley. It is exactly in the middle of the blower belt. I'lll send a pic once I get it all bolted together.
