Imagine getting a 03/04 for $20K box stock. Spend $8000 on full exhaust, Twin Screw, CAI, pumps, injectors and a tune. Another $4000 for all the suspension and chasis stuff with all the things that will correct the IRS short commings. $2000 for some light 18" wheels and good tires (295+) in the rear. $500 for some better rotors/pads and lines. Little odds and ends and you have $35000 total spent. What does that get you?

How about a 600+rwhp beast that can pull more then 1.1g's in the corners, run 9 second quarters and still keep its butt planted on rough corners. And that still leaves you $15000 under the GT500 and you will kill all that you see. Hell take that extra $15000 and get better pistons and rods with a TT setup and run 1100 or so rwhp.
But really the Terminator is the better bang for the buck

I remeber that. Dude was making like 20 lbs of boost and had a crap tune and grenaded the motor. Yeah the GT500 has a stout block. Really I think the Termis and GT500s are almost identical when it comes to how much power they can make on the stock bottom end I could be wrong and the Termi has been around longer for more development. I know the big problem with the GT500 is belt slippage cause the way Fodr designed it so that people wont try to overspin the SC like us Termi owners do. But I see companies are figuring it out. The GT500 is a beautiful machine but I love my Termi. I love having that IRS and with my suspension mods she is just too fun on the twisties

I love the IRS too man. Some times I wish Ford would have put it in the GT500 because it wheel hops like a mother anyways. HAHA

i love the look of the new edge body style more. dont reall like the new one except i have saw a couple that were done right that i liked.

anyway if i had to choose one i pick the terminator also. i just thought the gt500 was faster stock for stock. like i said traction becomes a factor at higher hp levels on stock tires your only going to go so fast.

Seriously though, I only have mabey 30 horses over a new Z06 and prolly weigh 400lbs more.
On SVTP I see that Termis at my power level with DRs and a good driver run high 10's. Also 2-3 gear pulls on my car are just insine
We were on a closed track We were both doing 60 and I put it in third to wait for the three honks (which he was doing). I didnt jump and we nailed it about the same time. I very rapidly palled one car on him then slowly added another length in the first part of fourth. By the top of fourth he was at my rear bumper and we stopped. I know in 5th he woulda passed me. The dude was cool as hell and said he was not expexting that. He said he was watching my tires breaking loose all through 3rd as were his but couldnt believe I was able to pull on him. He said that was a real win cause he didnt miss shift and knows I didnt jump and he had his TC off as well. He said he hates most Mustangs and had no respect for them but now he said hes anxious to run other Cobras and that I wasnt the "typical cocky" Mustang owner
Really though I have met a couple douches around here with Stangs that think they will kill anything so I can see where hes comming from. I am used to F body guys being dicks too but every once in a while you meet a cool one
I bet off the line he woulda pulled a length and held it on me but he will not rape me. My car builds sooooo much torque by 2 grand that it really pulls like a freight train
And yes, my car will break the tires loose at 100mph and they are VERY sticky Pilot Sport IIs in 295 out back. They contact patch is exactly 12" wide

Z06 weighs 3050#s....your car weighs over 3600 even with your mods.
Im going to have to say that the guy didnt know how to drive....sorry.

So im with 04yellowGT on this one.....A properly driven C6 Z06 will "rape" your car....heck, it would rape mine if properly driven and I have a decent amount more power, with alot more torque (6# lower + 3.1 ). It takes 530RWHP to run even with one of those cars....here watch this vid, this guy can DRIVE and his cobra has over 50HP more than yours. Hes on SVTP as well so feel free to ask him any questions. YouTube - Rematch '03 Cobra (516 RWHP) Vs. C6 Corvette Z06 (stock)

Problem is, they are picky on how they are driven....most owners run low 12s @ 120/low 120s. But with more practice they regularly run 125+. My tuners 07 Z06 with JUST a tune (+ 15HP is all he got) ran 11.1 @ 129 in his.....but started out @ 11.9 @ low 120s.

I believe that you beat him.....but all im telling you is they are ALOT faster than you think when they are driven correctly. I just dont want you to go talk smack to z06 owners and then get your butt handed to you on a silver platter.

Thanks, and when I was talking about this somewhere eles I also stated the dude prolly didnt know how to drive Im not Mario myself but atleast I can say I beat one But I have emense respeckt for the LS series of engines and Vettes. I have owned three Vettes. And like Vette owners, they are usually pretty well behaved

But we are derailing. What do you prefer 331? The .... well 331 Cobra or the 281 Cobra

I must have missed this one.

Don't get me wrong your car is pretty fast. All my buddies I race(d) with have or had Cobras. They all made what you're making or more with Dean having the fastest which was a KB w/ nitrous that was making 650rwhp off the spray. So I know what the cars feel like and how they pull to say the least.

I've also been in a few C6 Z06s and raced one.

Like hotmustang already said those cars are VERY fast. First you need to realize the fact that they have, weight, top end pull and aerodynamics on their side. From a roll those cars are much faster than what they are from a dig hence why they can beat cars some extremely fast cars in stock form.

Take a look at this video. Its a Modded 07 Shelby and 2 KB Cobras at 21psi vs a C6 Z06 with headers, h-pipe and tune.

YouTube - Z06 vs GT500 vs 2003 cobra vs 2003 cobra (all modded)

Also for people going 10s with your setup I have never seen that without a solid rearend or being extremely, extremely good drivers.

Either way you have a Z06 kill under your belt but I wouldn't go around looking for them if I were you.

My 03 cobra hands down. I still havnt driven or been in a new shelby (oddly enough), but im really not too big on them. I have driven the new GTs and I just didnt like it....funny but they were too refined feeling lol....and it did feel BIG. So I know the GT500 would be unbearable for me.

Thats what I like about my 03....its very comfortable and handles excellent, however you can still FEEL whats going on and what the car is doing, and the car still feels light and somewhat small.
Perfect mix for me....even though I used to not like them much (mainly due to the stock clutch quadrant not allowing clean shifts of any sort... I originally blamed the transmission).

So yea, in 100% truth.....if a owner of a brand new (stock or similarly modded as mine) Shelby GT500 came up to me and offered a straight up trade, I would respectfully decline

look guys.

you spout 600rwhp termi's. and that's nice. a bolt-on GT500 makes 815 to the tires on stock internals and cast iron headers. we do have a 700/700 termi in the car club here. he blew up his stock tranny. we also have 2 blown up termi's this season. if you dont believe me go to.....

Tennessee Discussion Forum

and email the club president.

both of them have modded eatons and 500ish rwhp.

the heads on the GT500 DESTROY !!!!!! 03-04 heads. add a low drag screw and the case is closed. the 700rwhp/700rwtq termi went to memphis and had EVERYTHING done to it. i mean EVERYTHING.

so i respect the termi lover(i am one of them). i wuould also want a termi over the GT500. i hate the car(GT500) to be honest. but have no illusions fellas a 5.4 liter GT500 OWNS termi's mod for mod. it is a small little weekend thing to replace the stock GT500 rods with manley i beam's. then where is the arguement?

if a turbo FORD GT makes 1500rwhp so can a turboGT500 with little effort.

the only question should be which is the better car over-all? and i think most will agree the termi is great.

my $.02

What GT500 is putting down that much power with out a blower upgrade?

And If a regular enthusiast that can do a motor build in a weekend I am doing something wrong.

^he probably is meaning "Bolton" as in a huge KB bolting onto the intake in place of the the stock. No way the stocker will do 815RWHP....max is low 600s ported without spray.

But yea, the GT500 engine seems to be good for a good 100RWHP mod for mod....heads are the key here. They are modern variants of the 00 cobra R heads actually.....AWESOME heads. Somewhere around the 300CFM flow range....the 03/04 heads flow around 265cfm.

A Terminator is a great car and is still one of if not the best bang for your buck car out. The biggest thing that is hurting the Shelby is the money they cost. I think that is one reason alot of people hate on them. I think in another 2 years or so you will be able to pick one up in the mid 30k and then they will be more appealing.

My buddy made a KR style hood for the Shelbys. I worked there over the summer last year and there was usally 1-3 Shelbys there at a time. They ranged any where from bone stock to a Whipple making 750rwhp. The cars are crazy even with just a 2.6, exhuast, intake, and tune its one hell of a ride. Though the cars are big, I don't really think they fell that big when driving it and with a few mods they don't feel very heavy either. LOL

My Dad has a stock GT500 and when I shift into 3rd I am about 90-92MPHish. You were in 3rd too at that speed? That's pretty good. You'd have to go to the track for an accurate race. Driver vs. driver will be KEY!!! Some guys can't drive those GT500's and run 13's at the track.

03-04 heads are a definite improvement over 99-01 tumbles, but dynamically the GT/GT500 port have an volumetric (cylinder filling)advantage also. far better short side.

$$$$$$$$$$$$$$

to be honest , the 03 SVT is your best bet unless your a rich guy , this economy is causing the bottom to drop out of most used cars , you could pick up a used ZO 6 ..03 Cobra right now for real cheap , the GT500 is way out of the reach of most guys & to be honest that 3/10 0f a second doesnt really matter ...... tomorrow will bring more gloom & doom .... but for a guy who has saved a few scheckels now & the next few weeks you will deals on these cars like ever before ! right now there are all kinds of bargins ...remember the toys will go first , happy hunting ! punch in any on auto-trader & the other spots ...................................

I talked to guy that had a gt500 and he traded in his termi to get it. I asked him which he liked better and he looked at me like was crazy. Then simply replied the gt500 hands down, said it would smoke his termi. He had mods on both cars. I believe both of them had pullies, intake, exhaust, tune. I think the gt500 is more refined, but i still love the termi's so tough call
