TFS stage 1 cam?

I need to decide on a cam that won't affect piston to valve clearance. It will be run with a set of Edelbrock performer 60379 heads, 1.6 rockers, explorer intake. I was planning on the e-cam, but am afraid I won't like it. Should the TFS stg 1 be okay? I do not want to have to flycut the pistons.
 
I dont have specs handy, but im pretty sure a tfs stage 1 will work fine with that setup. Nevertheless you need to check Piston to Valve Clearance when installing any cam.

I'm using TFS TW heads, TFS 1.6 rockers, and TFS stage 1 cam.
 
install cam, put clay on piston valve reliefs, install head, add rockers and turn the engine slowly till the intake and exhaust valves open and close on the clayed piston. Remove rockers and head, measure thickness of clay for clearance.
 
you just have to install the two rockers on that one piston. I only torqued the head down to 50lbs. I noticed i had a crapload of clearance so i went with it. If you notice your clearance is iffy, then do it again and torque the head down to the proper torque and measure again.
 
You want to shoot for 0.100" on intake and 0.125" on exhaust for clearance.

I personally would consider running a Crane 444221 (old 2030) over TFS-1 with those heads but TFS-1 vlv events per their site are:

int opens 3 BTDC
exh closes 4 BTDC

You should have plenty of room but checking is always a good thing. When you put the clay on the piston make sure to spray piston with WD-40 first so it doesn't stick and best way to measure impression thickness is to cut clay through middle of impression with razor blade.
 
so what happens if the cam doesnt clear. he cant return it so he's basically stuck with it. i guess my question would be has ANYONE ever heard of anyone else having any p-to-v clearance issues? and whats the specs on the 2030?

pretty sure as long as u put those heads on it will be fine. With the stock E7's it will be really close with 1.6 rr because the e-cam has .498 lift and i think the stock heads and valves can only go up to .500.

The problem with the tfs cam is that it is designed for use with TFS heads. The duration is higher than the e-cam which will drop u more out of ur powerband than the e-cam. (without the right gears or stall converter if AOD).

I dont know what the maximum lift is on the valvetrain set of those heads, but its probably like 550 to 600. So either one of those cams should work with those heads... you could even bump it up to a 1.7 Rocker for a little extra lift. (.529/.529 on the e-cam, and .530/.541 on the TFS1)
 
the maximum lift on the heads is .575 lift. I think I will go with the crane 2040 (e-cam) with fms 1.6 rockers. I'm going to get the fms lifters too. Does anyone know if the fms hardened pushrods are the correct length for the 2040 cam? I remember my friend said he ran them with the exact same set-up, but had to use shims on all the rockers.
 
Yes the 2040 w/1.7s will clear with room to spare. Intake opens 0.05" at 0 degree TDC (basically intake starts opens as piston is on way down) and exhaust closes at TDC (0.05).

TFS-1 will outperform the E, the 6037s are good heads but don't flow as well on exhaust as say TWs or AFRs.

2030 - 270/278 216/220 .533/.544 112LSA
Installed on a 112ICL will make some real nice power & give a nice flat torque curve.

i have 60379's with an f-cam, no clearance issues, stock forged pistons
