Progress Thread Therapy Car-- Freshening Up the Lower Intake

I got everything tightened up last night. Couple of bolts were a tiny bit lose. I'm going to pick up one of those gizmos that pressurize the coolant system on the way home from the parts store. If it holds pressure great. If not. Well I know what I'll be doing this weekend.

One a side note I realized something about my car last night. I guess the suspension has fully settled since I changed everything a while back. The front left tire leaks down over time. I need to to take it off and get it fixed. I had to put air in it to get it from the garage to the shop, but I just put enough in it to get it off the rim and to roll 150 feet. Not drive on the road, so it had 15-20 pounds in it. I put the car on the lift because I got a lift. Who want to do all that bending when you can pick it up LOL. Anyway I went to swing the lift arms under it first on the front right side of the car. With the pad all the way down it barely gets under the frame rail. The last arm to go under was the front left. I wont fit. I had to put 30+ pounds in the tire to get the car up enough for the arm to fit. Once I get the full length connectors under it I'll have to start driving the car up on wood to put it on the lift. Useless information I know, but I think its funny and its my dysfunctional build thread!

Yeah, that’s the downside of those lowering springs. I put FRPP springs on my ‘86, then new ball joints, tie rods, lower control arm bushings, etc. The car looks good, and the front end is nice and tight, but I can no longer roll a floor jack under the front unless I raise the wheels.

I learned that the hard way. First time going back on the ground in a year, I put jack under k member, move the stands, and lower it down to what I thought were the sounds of my front bumper cracking. Luckily it was just the air dam underneath.
Grabbed a bottle jack to help get my now stuck floor jack out.
Now I know!

Well I guess I know what I'm doing AGAIN. I picked up the coolent system tester on the way home today. When I went down to the shop and took a look at the car this is what I found.

This is after tightening things up. Odd but I'll bust it down and see what I can do. Do you guys use locktite on timing cover bolts? I put antiseize on them. I've seen to many pictures of the bolts getting stuck.

It never used oil.

I ordered the timing chain cover. I'm not 100% sure that its the true issue, but I'll feel better having eliminated it as an issue at this point. It was in stock at LMR, so it should be here sometime next week. With a little luck I'll find time this weekend to pull the old one and get everything cleaned up and ready for the new one. I also remembered that something under the hood start squealing the last time I drove the car. Gotta figure that one out as well.

In that picture your lower intake gasket doesn't look so good? Have you checked if maybe the coolant is coming from there?

I have not. I'll clean backup tonight and take a look. Any pointers on how to check that? I have not had the lower intake off since I got the car.

Clean it up really good in the area I circled and run the car. Look for moisture/coolant coming from where front of lower intake meets the head/block (again, circled area)

Dry up everything and then place a paper towel over the above circled area. Then pressurize the system like you did before. If the paper towel is soaked then that is were its coming from. If its dry and the puddle is still on top of the timing cover then at least it rules that out. You don't have to sit there looking/watching that area to see if its leaking.

Clean it with like Brakeclean, make sure the area is dry, dust some flour in the area then slowly add pressure, the flour will show the origin almost all the time.
Then after you can make cookies just wash your hands first

You can buy the uv dye at a parts store for like $5. UV flashlight under $10. Find any leak you have.

Well non car things happened this weekend BUT one thing did. The coolent system tester that u rented was broken so that didn't happen. I did top the system off though and just a minute ago I went over and took a look at the area in question. While watching it dripped from the upper intake down to the pooling area. At least now I know where the leak is and I'll have a spare timing chain cover! This is what I was doing most of the evening.
