Those in the Lehigh County, PA area.. I have emissions questions..need answer quick!!

I just moved to Macungie, PA last month from Jersey. I don't think my car will pass the visual inspection test, being that it has no smog pump. Im not sure about emissions itself either. It will be driven under 5000 miles a year from now on, but I stopped by a gas station today and they said that there needs to be documentation from the last inspection up until now that it has been driven under 5000 miles a year. However, my last inspection was in Jersey. So now I'm all confused. I just need to get this car emissions exempt. And why the hell does it cost $60 to inspect a freaking car?? Any help is much appreciated.

Il help best I can....Yes..$60 does suck,watch for specials, some places do it cheaper...but if you dont hav e a smog pump, my best guess is to take it to a place that might not "know" you dont have a smog, I know it sounds wierd, but Im sure there are some people that wouldnt care at all, they would look at the car, check the basics, then pass it...im not sure if you found milage varification coming from nj to pa if youd be able to do the 5000 mile exemption, I think it would have to have been in the state for at least a year

If you fail emissions, you should get 1 free re-test. I failed the second time and had to pay for the emissions test for the third try (finally passed on the free fourth try).

Does your jersy inspection sticker have the mileage on it?? If it does and the mileage on your car is more then 5,000 over that you cant get exempt.. But you may be able to roll your own odemeter back a couple miles t make it exempt. In Pa cars so many years old are mileage exempt on the title anyway so there is no way to prove you did it.

Yea.. 1975 and older are exempt. The guy says that he needs the paperwork from the inpspection station for it to be legit. I had my car inspected a year and a half ago and since then i've put 10k on it. Hopefully the place I go to won't realize that I don't have an air pump. Maybe I can pass off my supercharger as an "air pump" .

I don't think that all counties in PA need to have the emmisions test completed. Is this true?

Click on "other counties" under Regional information to see the counties where emissions is not required (but visual is). Unfortunately for you, Lehigh is in the "southcentral" region requiring the tests.

around me it $100 or close to it to get cars inspected. If you are going to drive your car under a certain milage, there is insurance for that, which is very cheap... but I think the car still has to be inspected yearly( i could be wrong) even cars driven very seldomly need to be road worthy. if you passed your last inspection in jersey, you should pass here. the reciept you got will have the milage on it... so there is yor documantation. it sucks that here we have to pay for that , i think it is free in jersey isnt it? anyhoo... good luck

Congrads from moving into a better (yeah i know commonwealth) state Most shops around us just check the gas cap and look at the cats. Call around your local dealerships and ask what the requirements are.

You can also hunt down other mustang guys in your area and ask them where to go.

I've seen 2 year and 4 year inspections for NJ

Here in Ohio they check for cats, check gas cap pressure, then run the car on a dyno and check the emissions. They never even looked underneath the hood for my car.

Thanks for the replies guys. I have a 2 year NJ inspection sticker on my car. New cars get inspected every 4 years. The last time I got inspected was a year and a half ago. That was with an entirely stock long block, ported intake, ignition, full exhaust and some other crap and working smog equip. The car has come a real long way since then. haha. I don't think I'll have a problem passing emissions even though I no longer have a smog pump. I just need to change some numbers in the PMS and that will take car of emissions. My only problem may be if they see that I don't have a smog pump.

There is a sunoco up the street and one of the mechanics there has an older s-10 with a 350 in it. I was talking to him the other day and he seems like a nice guy and he likes my car, haha. Hopefully I can get him to inspect my car.
