Pulled the front clip and then the bumper and the supports, the bumper itself weights more than the whole front clip with lights and all. I don't plan on putting it back. My question is does the front bumper itself hold the cover at all, I don't want it to flap in the wind. I plan on the same for the rear.

I have seen pictures of cars in magazines with the bumper pushing in at high speeds at some of the Mustang races. I dont know how much he took out from behind there though.

That bumper cover is filled with styrofoam on the 04 stang we have in the yard. There is a 2x2 or bigger square tube made of steel right behind it.

Its plastic in my 88, so what do you think it weighs? I know yours is not a DD, but mine is so I will leave it. Some kind of foam may be a good idea to help keep its shape. Great stuff comes to mind, but that may cost a bit.

My front bumper support and struts got yanked, and the front nose doesn't sag at all. I think it weighs around 27 LBs with the struts and bolts and stuff. Got it written down [weight of all the stuff I removed] but can't find it at the moment.

If this is in your 90 the bumper should weigh almost nothing -- it's the supports that hold all that weight. Maybe just fabricate new mounts for the plastic bumper (aluminum) -- that way you have some support??

Thanks for the input.

I put the clip back on and as jadedipa said, can't tell unless you push it in. The front cover doesn't touch the actual bumper. I know there isn't anything supporting the front end if it is ever bumped. I've used that bumper a few times when people tried to play games with me, but I shouldn't do that anyways.
