Throttle Body Coolant Bypass?

Okay, I just bypassed the thing. I put an extra vacuum cap I had lying around on the nipple that I could actually get to. I wanted to do the same for the other side, but the thing was damn near impossible to reach. So I just put a bolt in the end of the other hoes and clamped it down. I tucked it neatly underneath the heater hoses.

While I was messing around, I checked my vacuum. I'm running around 18hg which is pretty normal, right? After I got done pulling a few lines and seeing if the vacuum went up, I put everything back together and turned the car off. I noticed a strange whooshing sound directly after I turned the car off, similar to someone letting compressed air out of a tire. I started the car again and the same thing happened once I shut it off.

Am I going crazy? Is this normal and I just never noticed it? It sounds like it's coming from the dash or pedal region.

i get it too. i have heard different theories on why (a/c during summer, vacuum bleeding, etc).

some folks report no issues. the code is not as important as the possible detonation, IMHO. the EGR charge is inert and actually cools the chambers down. since it is inert, the mixture is less volatile and the puter dials in a ton more timing (less volatile mixture is less prone to detonation). remove the EGR without using a TwEECer, burning a chip, etc, and one can experience detonation. the puter needs to know that there is no EGR and therefore to not dial in timing in EGR conditions.

the SN guys do something with putting the EGR pintle in the middle of the bore, to satiate the CEL's need to illuminate.
 
I would seriously be against disabling the EGR. While you can still get good gas mileage without it, it definetly helps. At least if it's working right it will.

By putting the inert gasses inside the combustion chamber, you're pretty much decreasing your displacement. Your engine will pull in less air since the chambers are already partially full. Since the engine pulls in less air, it also pulls in less fuel to match.

Although all the crap it puts in the intake sure sucks.

exactly the way i feel. Michael calls the EGR a "win-win situation" and it really is. no performance compromise, yet better economy, etc. but if one was already burning a chip or swapping to an intake w/o the provision for EGR, well one has to do what one has to do.

You turn off the egr function in the ecu with a chip. This also eliminates the chances of part throttle detonation that often accompany simply disabling the egr.
 
Leaky faucet - I recommend you take off the vacuum cap, and cap off the front nipple just like you did the back one - with a bolt/clamp in a short piece of the hose. The vacuum caps aren't designed to withstand coolant or pressure (coolant operates up in the 14-17 psi range). My experience with that - yes I learned the hard way - has been that they deteriorate and show cracking pretty quickly (12-18 months) when used on the cooling system. Hate to have one of those burst on you down the road. Ideally, buy 18" of hose at the parts store, and just run it from the front nipple to the back nipple if you're gonna block it off.
 
That sounds like a better idea. The Vacuum cap is really thin. I would run a hose from the front nipple to the back nipple except for the fact that I can't even feel the back nipple. It's so covered in harnesses and crap that there's no way to get there. :(

do EGR's ever leak internally or would it be an external leak? been thinking of duping my lines together but wouldnt if there is not much risk of having an unseen leak.
I am gonna bump this because I have wondered the same thing about the leaks. Is there a possibility of an internal leak or would it leak to the outside of the spacer only?
