Timing Chain

A very good source of mine and I were discussing things to do to my engine to get a little more kick out of it. First know this. I do NOT want to spend alot on this engine because it's got 130k on the clock. It already has a couple of minor mods... carb, alum. intake and headers. I don't know if I'll buy a crate or rebuild this one... depends on which way the wind is blowing. Anyhow, he mentioned that putting a new timing chain in there would be a very good thing to do. The original one is more than likely stretched or worn out. What are your opinions and what else should I pay attention to or do when doing this swap? Put a nice aluminum water pump in? Stuff like that...

anything you can bolt to the outside of this motor could be used on the new one, like the water pump, you could also go with a different fuel pump since you are right there and though you can't really swap it to the new motor (at least i wouldn't recommend it) since you are going to have the timing cover off anyway you could do a cam swap as well, you can a decent cam/lifter kit from summit for around 100-125 bucks and have a lot more power than that stock cam

why do you need a new timing chain?

I highly doubt your going to see any power gain from getting a new timing chain, but with 130k on it you might as well just REBUILD the whole engine, timing chain and ALL. Summit Racing actually has a whole rebuild kit with hypereutectic pistons for only $250.
