My mechanic just called to tell me that I need a new timing cover as he has found a crack in mine. It is a 65 FB w/ 289 and aluminum water pump. Anyone know wher I can get one quick??? I called John's and Mustang Depot and a local Mustang salvage yard, no luck.

The fox body timing cover is als a reverse rotaion one, ain't gonna work with your water pump. You can't even bolt the pump on it anyway. You need the correct one for that application. Yours is also a passenger side inlet too, you need the timing cover tha also has the timing pointer cast into the cover on the drivers side.

The one he is talking about it NOT easy to find from my experiences. It is the early cover that has a bigger recess because the early aluminum water pump was totally different from the later cast iron one...it has no back plate because the timing cover makes up the back of the housing. A later model timing cover will work as long as you are willing to go with the later model cast iron pump but make sure it has a mechanical fuel pump boss and the correct timing pointerl. I have an early 65 timing cover somewhere and I will look for it if you want me too. I can't remember what condition it is in but I will find out if you really want the correct unit for originality.

Ronstang,

Correct you are. This has been a pain in the A$$ to find. The place I oredered from swears the repro they have is for the early style w/ alum. water pump. We'll see.

The covers that are used with the cast iron pumps are a dime a dozen. The aluminum one's are like trying to find Jimmy Hoffa!

The one at CJ Pony parts says specifically that it is the early style for aluminum pumps, but it is used. I didn't realize that they list used parts in their catalog, and until today, I didn't realize there were two different covers.
