Tire Rack sucks

Theseuys think there the almighty car experts. I talked with a guy today about getting tires for my new 18" rims. I said i wanted 265/35/18 and 295/35/18. This guy proceded to tell me that they wouldnt fit and the tires would rub unless i rolled my fenders. He stated that saleen rolls there fenders inorder to get these rims and tire combos to fit????? I stated that i have talked with many people and the rims and tires fit fine and he basically called me a liar. So i told hiem to cancel my 950.00 order and ill get them somewhere else. Tire rack are Frigging tools.

I did and they guy was much nicer and he even worked with me on different size options.

You've got a few things going on there:
#1 - The tire rack guy isn't a Mustang expert. He was just giving you the best advice he had on him.

#2 - Not all 265 tires are the same width. If you compare tires from 2 different mfgr's they may not be the same width. A good example of this is Kumho, they run a bit narrow. A Pirelli may run a tad wider. So, if they tested with one brand, and you got advice from people with another brand ....

#3 - I strongly doubt the tirerack guy gave you flak. They are very professional. He was just trying to give you the best information he had, and you didn't like his answer.

Ummmm jfranci3, He infact did give me flak, And your right i didnt like his answer. Especially when he told me i didnt know what i was talking about. I dont have time for people like that, especially when discount tire direct is much more professional.

And BTW I realize that not all tires run exactly the same width. BTW Pirelli do infact run somewhat narrow.

The examples I looked at the Kumho 712 's (famous for narrow) was 10.6, while the PZero was 10.8. These numbers can vary by tread design. Your experence may vary. I didn't compare widths for all the tires.

tire rack does suck. i cant stand them and will never order from there again. i always buy from tires.com now

here's my story. i own a 97 f150, recently bought 18" boyds and lowered the truck 5/7. wanted a low profile tire to go on the wheels, so i went to tirerack.com and found the kumho 712's to my liking and ordered 4 in the 40 series. some hobart calls me up on my phone 2 days later and tells me that they dont recommend that tire for my truck and they have canceled my order. WTF? i call them, very aggravated, and plead my case, but he refuses to sell them to me. i tell him how i know at least 10 people around here who run 712's on fuill size trucks, most with lower profiles than 40 series. he won't have it, gave me a lot of lip. i told him if they wouldnt take my $600 someone else would.

i called back, told them i drove a 99 mustang and they shipped them out the same day. idiots............

Ive had good luck with tirerack. Remember they go by manufacturers data. The can not reccomend certain tire combinations to avoid legal troubles.

Also remember that they also deal with dorks all the times. Guys wanting to fit too big a tire on too small a rim. Every guy wants a 10 inch tire on the back of his car but they dont want to pay for the correct rims.

Tire Rack: Use 'em for the surveys, buy 'em if you know they fit.

Yowwwww...I use tire rack for research but a lot of you hit the answer. Different widths and squared shoulders make for a different measurement. Saleen rolls fenders?? Help me out here. I'm in my garage and my 02-382 Saleen sheet metal looks identical to my wife's 2004 Mach 1 sheet metal...pretty flippin standard. It's the urethane, the engine work, and the racecraft that make the difference on the newer Saleens. Maybe the older ones had work done on the fenders??

By the way, I used tire rack for the research on Goodyear Eagle F1 GS-D3s, and highly recommend the tires. But you think Pirellis are sticky, these things grow rocks. Seriously, they hunt for gravel to get thrown up into the fender flares. Be careful with these tires unless you want a lot of road rash on your fenders.

I use the Tire Rack all the time. My dad told me to get X tires and I was tired of arguing and they were paying for them ($150/tire). The Tire Rack called up and said they might not fit. I talked to the guy for a while and told him I'd call him back when I researched more. Thanks to him I got the tires I wanted ($87/tire) by showing my dad they wouldn't fit.

I have used the Tire Rack twice.

First experience: I ordered a set of wheels for my Jetta back in the summer of '02. I ordered them in anthracite and 2 days later, I recieved 3 anthracite and one silver. They were very appoligetic and had UPS picking my wheel up the next day. Everything worked out great and the guy I dealt with was really cool.

Second experience: Although the people you talk to on the phone are usually fairly cool, I went to the South Bend, IN location to get my Sumitomos mounted on my wheels last summer for my GT. The people at the desk were VERY snooty and rather unfriendly. They had a Corvette meet that was using their roadcourse track and maybe they picked their most uppity workers so that the Vette guys felt at home. Anyhow, I finally get the paperwork done at the desk and they tell me to take my wheels around to the garage area to have the tires mounted. I pull around and I am met by this geriatric German guy that gives me a bunch of crap about how "Ve must check your veels and make sure zat zey are round!!!" and was just a complete ass. Luckily, the kid that mounted my tires was really cool and he kept asking me about them when I went back in to pick them up before I left. Although I love my tires, overall, this experience was

I have dealt with Discount Tire only once, but it was great. They took a little longer than what they said to get my car in, but stuff happens. They were very helpful at the store and they were offering a "4 tires for $100" deal. I got a set of tires with lifetime balancing for about $107 out the door for my Nissan that I drive daily.

i just found the sales guy making about 8 bucks an hour a tool and an arogant SOB. I have to admit the first itme i delt with them it went fairly well but i had to lie to get what i wanted. Since when are tire rack sales people legal experts, OR mechanics.

Unlike the tirerack, Discount tires will sell you anything you want to buy and they won't bother to tell you that the tires will stick out 3 inches and get sliced open on the first hard bump you hit. They figure you'll just buy from them again. They will also let you ignore the manufacturer's recommendations and stick any tire on any rim. I would tend to trust tirerack much more than discount tires, but that is just my preference.

Its not that they tried to sell me something that wouldnt work. I know what i want and what will work. The guy at tire rack told me i was wrong and i didnt know what i was talking about.

BTW if im going to spend close to a grand on tires dont you think i would have done my homework???? Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm

And since when does a 265/35/18 not work on the front of our cars??? How many people here have them???

Tire Rack people are great as far as I am concerned. I have ordered tires and wheels from them and they were a great help.

Also "discounttiredirect" is not always the cheapest.. for example.
