Tire Size for 18" Fanblades

I would like to go wider but I am not sure what is best. Should I go with 255s all the way around, or can I go wider in the rear? I know that these rims aren't that wide so I was wondering what has been working, or not working out on these rims. I had a piece of metal puncture my tire on the highway today and it is not repairable so I need to do something right away. At least I got stopped before any rim damage, thank you ford for the TPS sensors! The good thing is that the OEM tires are on sale at Tire Rack for $79 so I could always just buy one of those and deal with this in the spring when the car comes back out. Hello Jeep for now I guess.

I've got a set of 255/50/17's on a set of 17x8 Cobra wheels and they still sit pretty well with the edges of the wheel. They'd tighten up a little more still on an 18" wheel, yet provide you with decent protection against curb rash. I say go right ahead.

I have 255/45 on my 18x8.5s and IMO, they look great. I'm sure you could go 265 in the back with not much problem. 275s would be pushing it unless you got a taller tire. I will check and see what there is.
A 275/40 is around 26.7" tall. Nearly .5" shorter than stock. To me that would not be good on a 8.5" wheel.
A 275/45 is around 27.7" tall. Nearly .5" taller than stock. That should work on the 8.5" wheel in the back.

I believe the fanblades are 18x9

You can run 275/40/17 all day long on 17x8 rims. The fan blades and 18 inch bullitts are 8.5 wide.

Maybe, but you don't want em. Especially on an 8" wheel. Your car will catch every rut and dip in the road and will bob and weave between the lines like a punch drunk boxer. Their piss poor road maners will offset any cool factor you may think you've gained by putting them on.

I want to get better traction and improve handling, not make it worse! I think I will go with 255/45/18 on the front and 275/40/18 on the rear. Obviously I won't be able to rotate the tires but other than that, what do you guys think?

Having same dilemma here when I swap rims. Staggered tires look hot but the lack of rotationability (if such a word exists) isn't so hot for the wallet.

Go for it
I never rotated my fan blades and still had a bit of tread left on the rear(even after several burnouts at work and 17 passes at the drag strip)and plenty on the fronts after 30K miles.

What tire to put on your 18x8.5 "Fanblades"? Depends on how you use the car. Mr TireRack.com shows 255-45 as recommended, I presume that is for "normal" daily-drivers. There's a plethora of brands and performance levels available.

My case is: fun driving and one or two autocross and one or two drag racing events per month; a car pretty-well-balanced for under- and over-steer on same-size front and rear tires; no big power mods; distaste for changes in tire diameter and effects on speedometer readings.

My answer was: Bridgestone Potenza RE-01R 245-45s. 140 treadwear, top road/track compromise in the Tire Rack test, first street tire to exceed 1.0 G lateral on the Tire Rack skid pad. They are directional, so rotatabilityness is front-to-rear, without remounting them. 780 tire rpm per mile vs 768 standard, a 01.0155% difference, less than a mile per hour difference on the speed o meter.

They look a little little, but we'll see how they actually work this weekend: RaceLegal eighth-mile drags Friday, championship autocross Sunday, both at Qualcomm Stadium (site of Sunday night's Colts-Chargers debacle).

I run 275's on my fox body, on 8.5 inch 93 Cobra wheels. They fit perfect IMO
