i remember when i had my cobra that certain brands were wider then others at the same tire size.

im replacing 285/40/17 yokohama tires with some bfg's. the 285 now is TIGHT to the fender on each side. does anyone know/have a resource for this comparison possibly?

i cant find anything, it seems like there was a chart out there. i dont want to go get this stuff mounted up and find out they rub and cut the tire and destroy it instantly.

After messing with tires over the years, I have noticed the same thing. The size 285/40/R17 is supposed to be 285mm wide at the widest point of the sidewall on the nominal rim width it's designed for. In this case nominal is probably a 9.5" or 10" wide rim.
What you are seeing sometimes is the same sidewall width between tire manufacturers but, if you look closer, one tire will sometimes have a more squared off profile at the shoulders (edge) of the tread than the other and appear wider. At the tread it is wider. This could be just enough to create tire damage in your case.
I've seen this once again with my last tire purchase. I went from a 245/45/ZR17-w Kelly Fierce to a 245/45/ZR17-w Riken Raptor. The Kelly was a more "squared" profile and appeared wider.

well thats not helping confirm that these will/won't fit.

the tires are a good price, i just dont know if i should get them now. i literally have no space on either side of the car for width gains.

ok. im gonna buy em...

i ran into 1400 dollars of stuff today i could not pass up the prices on. im flat assed broke so i had to go take cash off my line of credit.

these tires for 100 bucks/pair, 03 cobra seats and some engine stuff. f'ing cars are cheap
