Tires

IMO they are too big, and will stick out too much. 275mm = 10.826 inches. So they should stick out almost an inch and a half on each side.

245mm = 9.64 inches, which means about 3/4" will stick out on each side.

I don't know enough about tires to tell you if this is bad or not. My guess is the sidewall will be more vulnerable to cracks/dry rot/other damage with a 275. How much more? No idea.

I will say wider means more traction, which is always good.

I thought I still had this pic. This car has 275's on the stock Tri-bars. They won't stick out past the fender, the wheel itself mostly determines that, but they would bulge on the wheel.

I would probably use 255/45 instead.

To answer your origional question. YES! The 1998 Cobra rim is 17X8 and 257/40/17's will fit fine on back. I wouldn't put them up front. dstanggt50 you got it right, its not a good idea cause the front they will rub the fenderwell. (word to wise don't get 255/40/17's) I did cause I got a new set of pilot sports for 250. They look like rubberbands on my stock 17X8 Cobra wheels. I am currently trying to burn them off so it will be time for some Nittos.

OOhh...I didnt know they made a 257, but It too will fit. :D

Jessie....before my current rims, I had 275's on the CHROME tribars. It wasnt the easiest to get them on, but they DID fit and were on for over a year with no issues.
