i found a good deal on a used TKO and am picking it up this weekend. but i was wondering what the real torque ratings on these transmissions are???? some places/ people say 350lbs, some say as much as 425lbs, and some people say t-5s can handle 250lbs others say its good up to 300lbs. anyone know some defenate numbers????

the truth is it all depends on what you run....if you are just running it on the street then your transmission could prolly take around 400lbs of torque because you arnt strapping on sticky tires and launching the car on a hard take off all the time...but if you are a track person than you prolly dont want the WC T-5 w/ 400 lbs of torque behind it

The factory T5's changed through the years, but none of them were much good over 300HP. The TKO is good for 425, and that is off the TTC website so I think it's reliable. Don't know about the 3550- somewhere between the two. You will need more than the tranny though- you will need a different crossmember, different length driveshaft, different spline DS yolk, and different spline clutch disc. If you're getting a deal on a TKO though, take it! Good luck!

WC T5's were/are rated at 265/285/300 Ft lbs depending on year with the 90 and up being the strongest. The 330 ft lb T5 is known as the z trans(due to its part#), and is the aftermarket trans that could be bought thru FMS or other suppliers, not stock in any standard 5.0. Check tremec or D&D performance web sites for more info
