Progress Thread TxFireman’s Electric Red Coupe refresh

“Made” a set of plug wires for it. Had a set of Ford Motorsport wires that I cut down to length and added the correct ends for the LS coils. I also added a set of heat sleeves just in case.

When I put this car together I put pretty much everything brand new. I even spent the extra $$ and bought my heater core and evaporator core from the Ford dealership hoping it would last longer. Well so much for that. When I pulled the heater hoses off last time the tube pulled out of the heater core. So I got to once again do my least favorite thing on a Fox!!!


 
You could clean up that tube and solder it back on....but I guess as cheap as they are you'll replace with new.
 
It wasn’t cheap at all! It was a OEM Ford one. I have a friend that owns a radiator shop. He’s going to fix it for me, and it will be better than it was new!

I wasn't saying that the part on the car was cheap....I was stating the cost of repairing one vs. buying a replacement. When I started working on cars we rebuilt just about everything. Now it seems most people just replace parts. People look at me crazy when I tell them I can rebuild their power steering pumps, compressors, window motors, steering gears, etc.

Oh I knew what you meant lol. I was aggravated because I spent about 3x the cost of a parts store heater core thinking I would be better off. Not the case! Lol

When it comes to just replacing a part vs rebuilding the part it's a matter of cost to me. If I can rebuild it for a fraction of the cost to replace and I'm capable of doing the work myself then I rebuild it. Otherwise I get a quality replacement. If I can rebuild it cheap, but it's going to take me half a day and I can just go buy a new one cheap then I buy the new one. I rebuilt my power steering pump instead of buying new. I guess the real issue is people just are not teaching their kids how to do stuff like that anymore and younger adults don't want to take the time to learn how to do it.

The Ford piece is definitely a better part than the parts store heater cores, it just wasn’t “brazed” very good, which surprised me. I took it to my friend that owns the Radiator shop and he made it better than new! He even added the “support” on the tube to the right. The OEM one I pulled out of the car originally had the support, but the new one didn’t. It has it now!

My crank pulley has been milled down the thickness of the crank trigger wheel. It also has a spacer welded in to keep everything centered. So basically half of the thickness of the trigger wheel covers the spacer on the pulley and half of it covers the hub center that sticks out of the ATI balancer.

I was having some clearance problems with my crank trigger bracket and the case on my alternator with it being mounted so low due to the Vortech bracket. I had decided to make a bracket to swing the end of the alternator down enough to clear the crank trigger sensor bracket. I made a post here and Corral about it. A member on Corral responded and not only had info/pics of the bracket he made, but he still had the bracket and shipped it to me! This should solve my problem, on to the next one! Lol

Started running wiring for the Holley today. Running down the back this time. Going to bring it in through the transmission tunnel and mount the ECU under the passenger’s seat. My wiring OCD kicked in so I stripped all of the loom off of my brand new harness so I can tuck everything nice so it fits better and shows less.
