UNDERDRIVE PULLEIS

Minor SOTP increase (if any). No noticable bad effects on car. Go with the Steeda ones.
I'd probly go with steeda too if I had to do it again, got my BBK's for 90 shipped but they use the stock pulleys along with the new ones so its probly not as big of a gain as the steeda ones, but i could be wrong. I did feel a SOTP gain though and it seems to be more responsive now. This is one mod that is definitly worth the money. :nice:

Steeda ones are def the way to go..I had the March which are just like BBK's and still use the stock dampner (piggy back style setup)...The steeda is a one piece entire new unit...Much nicer and lighter...

One thing to keep in mind with "lighter" drive pulleys is the reduced damping offered which can possibly lead to grenaded oil pump gears. Slowing down the accessories is one thing, but reducing the mass of the crank pulley itself will net very limited power gains and may threaten the oil pump. As much as I think the piggy back setup is hokey and as much as I miss being able to use a T/A, I rest easy knowing the crank snout is well damped with my piggy-backed March units.

I agree totally, thats really y i went with these in the first place. That and they are alluminum which the steeda's are not. Last time I checked anyways..

The Steeda water pump and alt pulleys are aluminum but the crank is not. The crank pulley's weight was about the same as the stock one it is just thicker.

I picked up .22 in the 1/4 but only 1 mph. I could feel the difference and it also slightly changed my exhaust note. -Kevin

I dumped my piggyback pullies the other day. I'm having charging and heating issues and needed to pull them to see if that was my problem. Turns out it only helped a little but I won't be putting them back on. I'm on my second battery in two years. The heating issue is more than just pullies but I never liked the way it ran hotter after my initial install. I'll leave the 5HP gains for the track and my feeling is that is the only place you need a few tenths and a half MPH.

I have the Steeda pullies also, but I am having a problem
finding someone to put them on.
Just wondering, is there any charging or cooling problems
after putting them on from you guys that run them ?

Thanks,

Scott

If you have the tools do it yourself. Or pay me and I'll do it for you. :D

The Steeda's are not too different than any others as far as the end result. Your alternator will have to work harder to charge your battery. That's a simple fact. It also doesn't give the battery a full charge so each tends to have a shorter life. My car ran slightly hotter on the highway and a little more than that in city driveing. Not really too much of an issue there.

My problem was replacing a 6 year battery after 3 years and I've already been through one alternator with another looking like it is one it's last leg. Another factor is my car is older and has 117K miles. Another reason why I don't want the extra strain right now. Having said that I'm in the market for a supercharger so I contridict myself. But I'll take a chance with 100HP gains as opposed to 5 any day.

Other's may have different experiences with pullies but I won't put them back on.

P.S. Check the Trader soon if you are looking for some pullies. I'll have them up for sale soon.

Couldn't you just leave the stock alternator one on
to avoid any charging problems ?
Dosen't seem like it would make that much difference to me.

It was stock...replaced with a new OE one when it went out. Others may have different experiences. I'm not saying it will happen to everyone. Just putting my 2 cents in dealing with pullies. Any problems would be over a length of time...nothing that would immediatly jump out. I'm just saying from my point it is not worth the 5-7 HP increase. But you may be OK with them.

I also researched these pulleys before i bought them and put them on. I found that most of the negatives associated with these happened on the older cars i.e. pre 99's. Most of the people with 99 and up GT's have no problems at all. I have put about 3000 miles on mine now and have had no problems at all, no charging issues, no overheating, I was suprised because im running 1000 watt stereo. I really didnt notice a gain though, but my rpms hang now like they did with the h pipe i got rid of and i like that cause it stays there between shifts.

Oh yeah i got the steedas and installion was easy, just use an air wrench on the alternator pulley or take off the alternator(3bolts, 2 connectors) and take it to autozone or advance and have them change it out for you, also dont forget the silicone on the crank pulley.
