underdrive pulley question?

Didnt bother reading the thread and the stupid replys from peckers that dont have them. Steedas are an old-school dyno-proven mod with no downsides. They save you gas by improving your mileage. Get them.

Wierd how back in the old days of stangnet these things were absolutely understood to be a good mod, but now crap like plenums are the hype.

Would it be possible for you to express your opinion without resorting to name calling?

I don't, I just listen to those who build modular engines and race out cars for the NMRA and NHRA after all they are the one who know what they are talking about. Not some punk kid with a stock GT with little bolt ons and pullies telling everyone how they are great.

Tell me how many 600HP motors have you built? How many world records have you set? Until you can answer that, then you don't even deserve to even post in this thread trying to say how the greats of Al Paipto, Ed Olin, John Mihovetz are wrong. This is the reason why they dont post and offer tech tips and help us out. I wonder wqhy Scott and Jim are registered here and they rarely post? It is because they are doing things you read about and people like you tell them they are wrong.

So now piggyback pulleys are a better option than the 200 buck u/d pulleys with a new balancer...?

wtf...

They may well be. The goal of an underdrive pulley set is to slow down the accessories. That's a no-brainer: just change the diameters... Anyone can do that.

Doing the work to acheive the correct damping (not balancing...) is the hard part. I'd rather have a manufacturer to defer to Ford's engineers (i.e. using a PB design that uses the factory damper) than another brand touting -- for marketing purposes -- something like "a DaMpEr MaSs 75% LiGhTeR tHaN fAcToRy FoR lIgHtNiNg QuIcK rEvS!!" without thinking for a second the potential damage their product may cause as they push it on unsuspecting, uninformed consumers.

Just because a person who's good at one thing says something doesn't mean its always the final word.

Without people willing to stray from the norm, where would humanity be today? Without the wheel?

I don't think the issue here is whether underdrive pullies are good or not anymore, it's peoples refusal to accept change, or accept ideas they personally didn't come up with. However, just because you didn't invent it doesn't mean you can't add to it, or change it. Nothing anybody creates is perfect the first time, and it's people who are willing to try out different ways of modifying it that make it better.

Think back to the foxbody days, where one guy decided, "Hey.. maybe if I put an alternator from a different car in here, I can cure my dimming headlight problem." Ford takes a cue, and the 94-95's roll off the line with 130amp alts. How many times do you think this guy got flamed with "That won't work" .. "it'll ruin the engine because the pulley is larger" .. "if it were meant to have that alternator, Ford would've designed it that way!" ?

I bet those people feel pretty damn stupid right about now.

Bottom line: its your car. If you feel like putting on fender flares and 33's, go for it. If you feel like leaving it stock, go for it. This forum isn't for people to flame other peoples ideas, its to provide tech knowledge to people who are seeking it.

second dont trash my "little bolt ons" i may have problems but cash aint one of them.....

third i can say they are great if i choose, they are great on my car, and two friends of mine.....so deal with that.

also you dont know squat about me, who the hell do you think you are.??? go and throw some names out...woopie big freekin deal you want a medal or something..?? i never said those people are wrong, do you even know how to read..???/ do you..???

i guess founding mmber does not mean as much as i thought...lost a lot of respect for that term. guess it means you had a mustang before me...and thats it...:nono:

Don't waste your money and risk your engine by installing pullies that will do nothing for power anyways :notnice:

I'm sorry but that's an idiotic statement kilgore. Number one it's not a waste of money compared to other modifications. Pullies are $200 and are good for 7-10 RWP. Those are pretty good gains considering a plenum/tb combo is about $350-400. And if the pullies are installed CORRECTLY just like anything else, your engine is not at risk. Of course every modification done to a stock car will affect its performance and reliability. But that's the chance us car junkies take. You have to pay to play my friend.

Remember this is an opinion board. Everyone gives their opinion, and everyone does their best (hopefully) to give the most sound advice possible. In this sense we are all alike. In the sense of which mods are preferred or avoided we are all different. On some things there will never be a consensus.

What SGARLIC said does have merit, if everyone blindly follows conventional wisdom and never deviates from the pack nothing new will ever be discovered.

That being said I will never ever install or recommend pullies

Also, personal attacks and insults just weaken the strength of your argument so it is best to avoid them if possible. For all of us, including myself, this is not always possible :rlaugh:

If you can't handle being called that, then boo hoo. I have helped this thread by providing valuable evidence from professional engine builders only to have you state otherwise and I ask for your experience and this is what you come up with?

second dont trash my "little bolt ons" i may have problems but cash aint one of them.....
That's nice, but that doesnt equate to Al Papito and people who run multi million dollar race shops building engines for NMRA and NHRA racers. Those are the ones you disagree with. You don't have the experience as they do. They pioneered the modular community for us

third i can say they are great if i choose, they are great on my car, and two friends of mine.....so deal with that.
That is fine. That is not my beef. You can run any mod you want, I offered up information to prove your claim wrong, which I did.

also you dont know squat about me, who the hell do you think you are.??? go and throw some names out...woopie big freekin deal you want a medal or something..?? i never said those people are wrong, do you even know how to read..???/ do you..???
I know you don't run 9.8@ 135+ MPH in a naturally aspirated Motor. You don't hold the record as the fastest DOHC motor either. You havent designed the 00 Cobra R engine either. These guys have more knowledge than you and you want to argue.

Why are you even commenting if you arent saying they are wrong. Why comment at all? I know how to read, but you seem to have an inability to formulate a proper sentence.

i also give to crap if they post or you post.....i never said you or anyone was wrong, i said i love them and they are a good investment..
That this the thing, people who have the knowledge to help us out and you don't care if they spread the wealth of knowledge. They can save us money and time and you dont care. Yeah, that is the joy here.

now since you know sooo much about me...hmmm

Not at all, I just get tired of this site when people put up the right info from well respected tuners, racers, and engine builders and others put it down because they disagree. These arent just your weekend hobbyist, but this is their life, they know what they are talking about.

As a founding member means nothing but a certain number of posts and how long you post on stangnet. Don't read too much into it the title.

boo hoo..??? real cool...?

i got one.....hey man multi million dollar, hey i bet you cant run 9.8, hey i bet my dad can knock out your dad. wow you need help....

how old are you 19. wow

go ask for a hug...:D

oh by the way my dad is......ahahahahahha never mind, cant stoop to your level.....
