Unknown little box ('85 LX 5.0)

Can you guys help me identify this box on my car?

The car is a 1985 LX 5.0 automatic. So the car was originally CFI. I'm in the process of converting it to carb and in this process I want to dump any of the unnecessary items. I don't have to worry about emissions so if I can get rid of it please let me know.

The box is located at the front of the passenger side of the engine area. Just below where the battery sits and right behind the fan shroud. There is a hose connected to the box that runs into the firewall and from there I have no idea. My only guess is that it may be a charcoal canister for the fuel system but I'm not sure.

Also, if anyone happens to know where I could view a vacuum diagram for a 85 carbed car I would appreciate it.

you are correct...it is the charcoal canister. as for the diagram, i have no idea

It is your charcoal canister for your gas tank vent. It appears to not be hooked up so if the gas vapors don't bother you at all from the vent line then you can get rid of it.

I don't have mine installed either. Put a filter on the end of the line from the tank so that debris wont get in, then you can remove the box.

One more question. What is the valve looking thing that sticks out behind the power steering pump on the driver's side? You can see it in this picture.

If you are talking about the round thing above the motor mount, that is the oil pressure sender. It should be hooked up to your electric oil pressure gauge.
