Is it worth buying a used set of FMS 4.10 gears. I can get them for $50.00. They look to be in good shape with minor wear. Is it worth buying them or just buy a new set? Thanks Travis
Im sure several wont agree, but I put a used set of 4.10's in my 91, the pinion bearing was still pressed onto it, I just reused the shims that were in my current set up, put it all together and havent had a single problem or noise.
If you can install them yourself, it might be worth a try. This is not a project that should be attempted if you haven't done several sets of Ford gears prior to trying to do it. The cost of professional installation is high enough that if the gears are bad, you will be out a fair amount of $$$.
I bought a set of 410's on this site for about the same price.(was a few years ago) Went to have them installed and my mechanic said they will be real noisy because they were pretty worn. If its from a good source go for it. If theres any question in your mind, Id get new!
