used lifters used cam

why is it that you cant use used stock roller lifters with an upgraded used cam? or can you? i dont see why not. just trying to save myself some money since i am already $2000 over my budget. ive searched this topic and all i find is people saying you have to use new lifters with a used cam. but no reason why.

I think that only holds true with flat tappet lifters, just make sure the rollers are good.

hydraulic roller llifters(stock) can be used again. flat tappet lifters get wear spots from the cam and wont work with another one.

what are some signs of wear to look for on roller lifters?

just look for any wear on the roller part make sure it looks like a new one. just think you would use a new bearing on a old race...right?
