Buddy has a vortech v2-SQ on his 94 5.0 aode. He has GT-40 iron heads, Comp cams camshaft (XE270) and a trick-flow street intake. Bottom end is all stock.

He is wondering where to set the MSD boost timing master. Right now it's working OK at 1.25 deg/lb boost, beginning at 1 lb. but he is pretty sure it's capable of more power cuz it's a bit sluggish at the top end.

At 7 lbs, that leaves puts him at a max retard of 7.5 degrees total. base timing is stock 10 deg BTC. Where do you guys run your intial timing and what are your BTM settings when running a supercharger?

Thanks!

What does he have for fuel mods and how is it running? I'm torn between vortech and kenne bell

I have mine set at 12 degrees initial, and 1.5 on the retard. I started out with the retard at 3, and have been slowly working the timing back in at about 2 degrees a time. I don't have any problems where I am at, so I don't think I am going to try adding any more.

I put down 337 hp, and 343lb of torque when I went to the dyno. That was with the base timing at 10*, and the BTM pulling 30* of timing at full boost. I was having an issue with the spark getting blown out around 5K rpm's so I didn't play with the timing at all that day. I have the ignition upgraded now, but I haven't gotten back to the dyno yet to see what I can get out of it. I've been tweaking the timing a little at a time so it won't take too long to dial in when I make it back to the dyno.

12 init is high for a blower.

How do you figure out TOTAL timing?
RC

12 is actually low when you figure in the 1 degree of retard per pound. I upped it to 12 to get a little better bottom end.

Total timing is figured by taking the stock number of 26 degrees with 10 degrees of initial timing and subtracting your retard amount. I have 12 degrees of initial so my total timing at WOT is around 28 minus the 11 degrees for the retard, which equals 17.

Thanks....I thought 10 was normal for a blown car...but Joe and I checked and Im at 9...Im running way safe.

IM gonna be putting the Snow Meth kit in in a couple of weeks...so more timing, here I come baby
