I did better then I thought I was going to do. This is with stock 19's, stock 88lph pump, and stock A9L. I ran 5 gallons of sunoco 93 and 2 gallons of 110. Bumped timing, and pulled my air filter from my airbox. The street tire runs were the first two, all the last ones were on the DR's at 25PSI with a healthy burnout.... More details at the end.....

Towards the end my Trac-Loc gave up. The right rear was spinning so damn bad! And now my clutch is slipping a little.. Its just an autozone clutch on a stock flywheel.

I had an absolute ball tonight! Going to make a few changes for the next time out in 2 weeks... Going to look at stiffer clutches and a rear end rebuild kit. Also going to try and find a shorter DR. I never got out of 3rd gear. All the DR runs were in 3rd. I think there is some left on the table. But for a car that I can drive everyday, with ICE cold A/C and a killer stereo. I am happy.

So a best of 13.69 and best trap of 101.1 mph. Woohoo... I was so close! 6 hundredths of a second and .9 mph!

Sounds like it was worth it. Take a look at the King Cobra Clutches, if they still make them. Another good street clutch is a spec stage II.

Oh man was it ever! I haven't been drag racing in years! My buddy took his 71 Z28 split bumper down also. His car was a stock bore 350, ported gm 882 heads, Victor intake, holly 750 VC carb, 280ish comp cam, mid 500 lift, 1.6 Roller rockers, shoenfield headers, turbo 350, with a 3800 stall, 3.73's and 28" street tires. He ran a best of 13.9 @ 98.

I can say that my car has never grabbed 2nd gear like it did tonight. OH MAN! on the 1-2 it gave a healthy rrrrrrp! 3rd did too. I am still amped up about it!!

So were any of the runs on the Cooper Zeon's that I based my predictions on, or were they all on the borrowed drag radials?

Look at his 60's, Brian... 2.0 is not drag radial traction. He was running 13.70s with a 2.1 60'... Drop the pressure in those tires to 15-16 psi and watch the 60's drop to 1.7s and the 1/4 drop to 13.2s-13.4s. To get much better traction than that, He's going to have to bring more power or more gear.

VIDS! And notice the custom multishade flat black paint!!

The first 2 times were on my Coopers. MCIR isn't a well funded track. Very low budget. The launchpad isn't the greratest. I just couldn't get it off the line.

Good job. I can see the learning curve, which is a good sharp one. Some people run a dozen times and every time is their first time. Next time to the track, pack some sandwiches with you.

Apparently it is? The last 8/10 runs were on drag radials. Of which, only one of his runs consisted of sub 2.0 60ft time.

Like I said…first time at the track, don’t be surprised if the car doesn’t run as quick as it should. I was actually pretty much right on the money with my guess considering I made my prediction before he announced that he was borrowing a set of drag radials.

I wasn't implying that he "couldn't" run decent times with his set up, only that he likely wouldn't because of this inexperience with the car at the track. The more practice he has, the better his times will get, no doubt.

Well it is looking like I am done racing it this year. Diff took a big dump on me today. the cross pin bolt some how sheared off, and the cross pin came loose, and shot out the diff pan, taking the spider gears and C-clips with it. THANK THE LORD I have 4 wheel disc brakes! Kept the rear wheels under the car. The car is out at my buddies with the rear housing out of it and stripped of all the SVO brakes, and I junked the scrap before work tonight. The pinion bearing has been leaking for a while, and the gears were howling a little bit. But the housing/gears/trac-loc are from an 87 Tbird turbo coupe with a billion miles on it. I think it lasted long enough with the abuse I put it though. I am broke right now, so a new housing and diff are going to wait til next year. Going to add it to the Turbo project that I am doing while the snow is flying.

Thanks for all the comments, and the positive praise. I had a ball at the track, but the car will never be a drag car. I wanted 13's the first time out... I got them. Do I think more is there, yes, but I will never know.

So, does anyone have a 3.55 or a 3.73 with a good positive locking diff for a good price

Charlie

No, but I might have a stock dif with 3.73s, and hardened 5-lug axles soon if I choose to replace the whole thing with a fabricated 9".

Sorry to hear about all that. That's pretty crazy. Sounds like the time I drained the lube out of one of my old 8.8" rears and tried to tow the car a couple of weeks later without considering that fact. It made it about 15-20 miles and then **** hit the fan in a big way. The spider gears and differential were so mangled inside of the housing that we couldn't get them out. I just junked the whole thing.

Damn dude that sucks. Well, an excuse to upgrade, right?

Why do you keep saying "I'm glad it isn't a drag car" and you are drag racing it? Then what is it?
