wanna critique a combo?

347 Dart (sportsman) block with scat internals
double roller timing set
AFR 205 heads
custom cam
TFS-R intake
Vortech S-trim w/ power pipe
meth-injection
longtubes/bbk H/borla catback (not sure on header size yet)
42lb/hr injectors w/ C&L MAF (80mm)
Aeromotive A1000 fuel pump w/ -10 feed and -8 return lines
Vortech fuel rails

supporting mods would be there too such as suspension/ignition

Initially I thought 205s and a R intake would be a bit big....but then I thought about the blower. Also, with a good cam everything should work out nicely.

what do ya think?
 
The 205's are R intake are FAR from too big.

You WILL need a much larger injector and I wouldn't use the c&l meter.

Talk to your cam grinder about what size longtubes to run, either 1 3/4 or 1 7/8. You'll need a 3" exhaust.
 
If you're going Dart... screw the 347. Get the big bore 8.2 deck and use a 3.4 stroke, giving you a 363.5. You also want this because the AFR 205s are setup for a 4.125 bore, so that would help with alignment.

You could easily use AFR 225s here. There's a guy on Hardcore5.0 that has a 360 and AFR 225s, runs consistent mid 10s N/A and daily drives it. Go big on the heads; you can always control them with the cam. Ed Curtis set up that combo, you should give him a call.

I'm with the guy above, I'd say you'll need at least 60 pound injectors. You could put down some very serious HP with this combo.

Sounds good but with the 'extra' .095 bore, that doesn't leave any room for a rebuild now does it. It was kind of be 'bad' later if you had to buy a new DART block for a rebuild.

60lb injectors sounds good to me...

The 205's are about as big as you need to go on a N/A 347, but with boost that isn't a problem:)

Oh, and the head dowels do the aligning:D
 
yeah, that's the only reason I wasn't contemplating a 363...I don't look forward to dropping 2 grand or so on a block for a rebuild.

I'm pretty dead set on the 205s...may change though. I'm just getting a bit of a plan together. Definitely going with a dart block though.

The blower will be changed as soon as I can afford it.
 
Yeah, it's easy to throw around people's money when your not buying it...:)

Do the 3.4" stroke, 5.315" rod (particularly with boost in my opinion), or you could run a 3.25" stroke (pistons have more material on them), less potential to crack a crown...

So I try to think from my perspective, I plan for now and the future, not just now...that is how I give suggestions...

Thats VERY wrong! 4.125" is not even close to the max bore they can go. If he went 4.125" , there would be .060" left to bore before he's at the max. Theres MANY rebuilds left. Lets not post if we don't have the correct information, ok? :nonono:

Yeah thats correct Adam. Ed Curtis recommended that guy use the 225's.
 
Mike beat me to it, but the dart block can easily go to 4.185" or more. My buddy is at 4.185" now and he had it sonic tested and it still has more than enough left for another rebuild. The expensive part at that point is the need for custom pistons.

I won't say that the 205's and R intake are too big, but it really does depend on the combination. Once you know what RPM range and the amount of power you want to make, then call up people like Ed C. and Jason at AFR. I can tell you that the 205's will not be recommended for every car and combo. :)
 
Siemens makes good injectors. My Uncle Brad runs them on his GNX and they perform well enough for consistent mid 10s.

Don't be afraid of going too big on the heads is all I'm saying. You won't loose with either the 205 or 225 IMO.

Mike and Paul beat me to it with the rebuild stuff.

I'm guessing that involves custom pistons right, or atleast a different headgasket:) That was something I was trying to avoid by letting him know. I guess you could go with a 4.155, 369...lol.

A stock block can bore well past .060 if it really wanted too, but do you want too;)

A 4.125" and down bore is very common, sometimes it is good to go with what is common and used. But if you want to be one of the handfuls that drag race at the NHRA and get everybit of cube they can, then go bigger than a 4.125" bore on an aftermarket block.

Yeah Paul, I think i've read of guys that had theres sonic checked to 4.200".

The sonic checker sends out a signal and then measures the time required to get the echo back. The longer it takes for the signal to return, the thicker the material. Sound travels at different speeds in different materials so the sonic checker needs to know what material is being tested. They measure cylinder wall thickness as well as cylinder heads and other items which racers are typically interested in.

So with .200" wall thickness, you would say that after a 4.125" bore you have MANY rebuilds left? Are you saying that with .075" left of the cylinder wall there are several rebuilds left?

I have to roll my eyes at that:)
 
you can buy the siemens 60lbs at rpm outlet for pretty reasonable.

if it were me i would save a few bucks and throw some vic jr's on there instead of the afrs. with the money saved i would put it towards engine management that could handle much larger injectors. then when the time comes, ditch the belt slap on a t76 and rock out with your **** out.
