So I was cruising around today and the car was running like a top, I went over a couple big ass puddles and all of a sudden she was stuttering like nothing I've ever felt before. Idle surging, nearly impossible to accelerate, things like that. Luckily I was only 1/2 mile from home, I barely made it back.

I have a fenderwall CAI, is it possible that I could have sucked up some water? And if this is the case, is there anything I can do besides park the car and wait for evaporation? I've never had this happen before.

edit: The puddles were big, but not deeper then an inch and I was going about 35. I wouldn't think this would be enough water to hydrolock the engine.

Fixed it:

I did that... both were bone dry. But I got a clean MAF out of the deal so I'm not complaining too much. So what the hell, right? My uncle comes over and we scan for codes and comes up 100 percent fine.

I pop off the dizzy cap and a god damn water fall comes out. 20 minutes with a blow dryer and some rubbing alcohol and the car fires up in two seconds and idles/drives like a champ. I had a fairly large crack in the cap that I couldn't see because it was around the other side.

But thanks for the reply, I think almost every time I've posted a problem you respond and at least give it a shot.

im glad to hear you got it whipped. that must have been some water trail to get under the cap.

in any case, good that it happened - a cracked cap can lead to a nasty misfire which will leave you dead in the water (no pun intended - just realized that).

glad i am around to post on your threads, though i am sure i am never of help.

take care. H.N.Y.!

If you find yourself driving in wet conditions you can pick up a Fox body rubber distributer cover. This wraps over and around the top of the dizzy to keep the elements out. Our years came with that molded plastic cover that is a real pain to remove/install.
