Since the 427 went in (6 months ago) i have been running
32*degrees total timing. No rattles,no issues, other then grip.
Decided to back the timing off a little to see if i could kill some
torque. Dropped it back to about 29.5* just drove it for a few minutes.
Not sure if it was my imagination or not,but it seemed a little smoother
at low cruise rpm's.

The surprise came on a 2nd gear stomp. Cruising at a steady 40,
4k,stepped on it and at about 5500 the tires broke loose. Since putting
the hoosiers (QTP 28x11.50 16lb) on,they feel on the edge but generally
don't let go on a 2nd gear stomp. And the air was awful, just over 2100' DA.
A few minutes later, tried again with the same result. Quickly turned the car
around. (tires getting some heat) 3rd try was on the edge but it stuck.
Did i find a little bit...or just a fluke ? This remains to be determined.

It all depends on cr, quench, cylinder head design......... now that I am tuning my own car I have realized that more timing is not always best....

Ie.... was running 26* at 8psi with afr of 11.5..... I backed the timing down to 22* and pulled some fuel to get the same 11.5 afr. Now the car pulls harder and no longer puffs black smoke out the pipes.

What I'm getting at here is cylinder pressure, you want it to peak at 10-15* ATDC more fuel requires more timing to get the flame front to move fast enough too achieve this. In your case I believe you were peaking cylinder pressure too early, now is the time to experiement!
