After doing a lot of research and trying to find out what is best for me and my application I have finally decided on a blower. Here goes and the "why" behind the decision. The Winner is..... Vortech YSi. And now the why. I really like the Kenne Bell but they are hampered by HP. The 1.7 can "only" support 680HP, the 2.2 "only" 850HP. The KB's both come really hard out of the hole but peter out by half track. The Novi 2000RR can support 900HP but is limited by it's boost capabilities. The turbo system I was looking at and could afford could only support 780HP. The Procharger P1SC was only capable of 800HP. The Vortech S-trim could only support 675HP. I looked further at Vortech becuase they have lots of options. I know a few Firebird owners with S-trims on their stock Birds from out at the track and they easily wipe my friend who has a Kenne Bell powered 04 GT. The Firebirds run 12.3-4 in the quarter where the Kenne Bell Gt only hit 12.9 once. The GT is totally stock except for the KB 1.7 Intercooled kit though. The Vortech YSi blower is a large HP blower in a small blower package. It can pump out 30 PSI, none of the above mentioned blowers can do that. The KB 2.2 drops out at 20PSI so does the Novi. The YSi can support 1200HP. Not that I could get to the level that any of the blowers are capable of, I just want the option. I'm doing a lower compression shortblock so boost will be my friend. I know everyone seems to like the KB but it is not the ultimate power pounder in my opinion. The YSi will eat the KB. The only problem with the centrifugal superchargers is that they create heat. The aftercooler of the Vortech should help that out. Anybody that is looking for a blower I would seriously look at 1 of these. They have tremendous potential. We'll see if I change my mind before I buy it. I called 3 different speed shops to ask their opinions and all said centrifigul made more power than the KB's. Some suggested turbos as the best power maker but I didn't want to pay the prices they were asking for them. There you have it. My logic behind what blower to get.

Looks like you did a little research into it, get your vortech and if you need a little help gimme a call since its no more different than mine which I installed myself. We'll have to go 'heads up' at the track sometime this coming summer.:nice: Oh whats with the fruity colors now on this board? What the hell?

I definetely looked into a procharger because of you. They are sweet units. Matt at the Mustang shop has a Bullitt in there right now putting out 512rwhp on a Mustang dyno. That's no damn slouch! The YSi just seems to suit what I want a little better. I'll give you a shout if I need a hand. We'll have to do a little heads up racing on a Friday night and show the ricers what a real car is. Should be a real good race with that monster of yours.

Where does it say the Novi gives in at 20psi?

That blower is rated to 27+psi.

Here are the stats of the most popular.
Vortech S & SQ trim
Maximum airflow: 1,000 CFM
Maximum boost pressure: 20 PSI
Maximum impeller speed: 53,000 RPM

Vortech T-trim
Maximum airflow: 1,200 CFM
Maximum boost pressure: 26 PSI
Maximum impeller speed: 55,000 RPM

Novi 2000
Maximum airflow: 1,700 CFM
Maximum boost pressure: 27 PSI

ProCharger P-1SC
Maximum airflow: 1,200 CFM
Maximum boost pressure: 30 PSI
Maximum impeller speed: 62,000 RPM

ProCharger D-1SC
Maximum airflow: 1,400 CFM
Maximum boost pressure: 32 PSI
Maximum impeller speed: 62,000 RPM

ProCharger F-1
Maximum airflow: 1,525 CFM
Maximum boost pressure: 38 PSI
Maximum impeller speed: 70,000 RPM

ProCharger F-1R
Maximum airflow: 2,000 CFM
Maximum boost pressure: 38 PSI
Maximum impeller speed: 68,000 RPM

When I phoned Novi they said it wasn't "recommended" to go over 20PSI with the 2000RR. I was actually leaning towards it before they told me that. Then i phoned Vortech and was told about the YSi. The Novi kicks the S-trim and the T-trim in the balls. The only way i would go Vortech was with a YSi or higher blower. Otherwise Novi all the way. The Vortech V4-XX is rated at 1850CFM, 1400HP @29PSI. I stuck with the YSi because it was an all around winner. 1200HP, 1600CFM, 65,000rpm impeller speed, 30 PSI. Pretty good numbers. We'll see. Nothing against the Novi, still an awesome blower.

I managed to find a guy in Calgary:nice: so the car will be making a trip up to Cowtown in Dec. I will get her back in Jan or so:crazy: Then I just have to sit and wait for the snow to go away!!!! Then the fun will begin. Good luck with your project hope it makes the number you're looking for.

Sweeeet!!!!!:nice:

Well it looks lik everythings changed again. The YSi will not fit like i was told. It needs to be a reverse rotation to fit on a 4.6. That version won't be out till next year sometime. I guess I'm back where I started. I'm back to thinking Kenne Bell, I just want that "kick in the pants" torque curve.

get the novi 2000.. if its not big enough, send it back, they'll upgrade it to the 3000 :D

Too late, just ordered the KB from The Mustang Shop today :D . Wasn't planning on it, but wife gave me the ok. Stage 2 blower cams and Stage 2 heads/Ported Polished PI heads and I am set! Boy am I gonna spend money on tires next year :nonono: .

As long as you went 2.2 you are set. The Novi is more then enough blower though. 20 psi and it is just waking up.

Unless you are planning on going full out renegade car or something there is no need for a bigger blower on a street/strip car.

We will have to compare HP/torque when they are both tuned.

or how bout you take the dyno queen to the track..

and run a 14.9 @ 150 mph :rlaugh: :D

The HP and Torque #'s are only meaningful if they are from the same type of Dyno and are SAE #'s. Keep that in mind. ;)

Yeah, yeah, yeah....we know that.

And Ryan, that will be half the fun. Trying to keep the car able to run at the track without being kicked off. Well, until the last run anyway.

Nope, went 1.7. The 2.2 was $7000 + $1000 for a Cobra R hood (including paint job), + fuel pumps, + injectors + a whole lot of supporting crap. It totalled out to almost $9000 when all was said and done :nonono: . The Intercooled 1.7 was $6400 including everything and didn't require any of the other crap or fabrication. I really wanted the 2.2 but just didn't make sense to spend that. After building a garage and then buying a shortblock that would be like $25000 in just a month. I want to keep the car streetable still too. I don't think there will be any problems with the fun factor of the KB either. I fought over this stupid decision for days, it came to the point where it was actually more stressful trying to buy this stupid thing than it was fun. I went back and forth over every single blower. The Novi ended up being #2 just due to torque curve, that's all. It logically was probably the best blower for me to get especially for drag racing but i got talked into the KB by a friend who has one. The thing feels like a 200 shot of Nitrous at 2000 rpm, it's rediculous the torque those things have. If for some reason the KB wouldn't fit I would have bought the Novi today. I don't think there will be an issue with the KB not making enough power. It will be more of a problem keeping it to the ground. I have never heard of a person being disappointed in a KB. I'll probably dyno her in March or April. I've got to make the trip to Calgary for the tune. I don't think it would handle too well in the snow :D . We'll have to compare numbers and dyno graphs. I'm planning on hitting SIR once next year for sure. You'll have to bring your boost monster out.
