Traction was terrible on the 10.22 run did nothing but spin 1st through third gear! best runs i featherd the clutch out at 2000rpm the crappy run i tried 3000rpm! ha that didnt work! i was going sideways all through 2nd gear! Not to bad i guess for a NPI 4.6 im assuming thats probably about it without DR's and more mods.

I ran something like a 9.76 at about 73 with just a PI intake through a 4r70w. So I'd say yea, probably so. And I was cutting a little lower 60s, in the 2.12-2.15 range. So if you got a little more traction, I'd say you could easily go 9.50. When were you shifting?

not really. A few things.

I ran 8.82 with just pulleys, PI Intake, H pipe and a kn air filter with stock 97 2.73(suck) gears. This was was with the stock NPI heads and stock NPI cams (1400ft DA). A set of gears and PI cams, I should have been in the 8.50-8.60 area. What was the DA in your runs? Your car should be trapping 76-79mph if you are hitting your shift points properly. Also, the cobra clutch might be hurting your 60ft with street tires, especially if you don't have great track prep. I ran one years ago, but on drag radials. I am pretty sure it has a higher clamping force than the stock clutch. This will most likely result in more wheel spin on street tires once it hits. You won't be able to slip it as much as a stock clutch, resulting in a higher 60ft time and overall worse ET. Slipping the clutch is essential to getting the car in the 1.8-1.9 range consistently on street tires.

Lower gears will be about the worst possible thing that you can do to your car right now. I would suggest the driver mod(seat time) then a bfg or nitto radial to get you going. If your clutch just grabs without allowing you to slip it, then you need drag radials.

With your setup, you should be seeing 8.8-9.0's. After that, a set of pulleys and TA will pick you up another 2 tenths. Good luck.

Once you get use to running your car and have a set of drag radials, you can compare the 60ft to the 330ft times. Different clutches will react differently. Some will launch hard with a nice 60 ft, but will result in a lower 330ft and ET because they will slip a bit on the 1-2 and 2-3(depends on how much heat you put in the clutch during burnout and how high you launch). I would think the king cobra will not have this problem since it will clamp hard at your power level. Just another thing to think about.

The first thing I would do, is get a set of 275/40 bfgs.

I tried shifting closer to 6000rpm didnt seem to make much diffrence.. Main problem i was seeing was not being able to launch hard at all.. almost had to get rolling then lay into it. feathering the clutch at 3000rpm was a no go all i did was eat the tires throuugh 3rd gear. 2000rpm and slipping the clutch worked well, track prep there was terrible. I've literaly ran a second faster with the same car at another track with my tbird because of traction. Car hooks ALOT better on the street.

Winters, were you on DRs? And what were your 60's and trap speeds? You must have been driving the crap outta that thing! Any tips and such to pull off those kinds of times? Last time I went to the strip there was a LS1 Trans Am (with a really good driver, I've known him for some time now), and he was only making passes at around 8.70 at about 82.

With nothing more than a tune, CAI, a king cobra clutch, and an x-pipe, I've gone a best of 9.21 @ 76.39 and 14.19 @ 95.26. That was with a 2.13 60ft. I tried drag radials this past saturday night, but the track prep sucked. Launching the car is the key. If you can get through 1st without spinning, you're gonna be ok. I would buy a set of drag radials before any other mods. If you think launching the car is hard now then you definitely want to wait on the gears. Get it to hook first.

Will, it took me a little practice. A good DR will help out a lot. Also, I ran welds up front, which were worth about .1 and close to 1mph in the 1/8. My fastest run with the regular wheels up front was an 8.93.

^^Good info, Winters. The biggest problem for me is that I can't do this whole 5000 rpm launch thing, or at least not with a lot looser TC. Either way, a good 2000 rpm launch (as much as I can hold with the brakes) is getting me 2.1 60's with no wheel spin at all, so I think with a little more power, I could get close to 2.0 60's on the stock TC. I got my tune this past weekend, and it certainly helped out a lot, especially the shift points and firmness. I data logged with my X3 and recorded a solid, consistent .5 second drop in my 0-60. That combined with the offroad h that is on the way should get me some low 9s, hopefully anyway. I'll see in about 3 weeks.
