What do the cop cars run in a 1/4?

There were only 5xx number of GNX's made...you sure about that? I can't see GM giving out those gems to a police station...

Probably grand nationals...they run low 14's...3.8L Turbo...

When your little, things seem much much faster... I remember those days...not to long ago...

Also in Florida we have Black Mach-1's I was driving on the highway and saw a Mach-1 and a STI pulled over by an FHP crown vic. I thought oh they where probably busted for racing as soon as I passed and looked in my rear view I saw the Mach-1 was flashing its strobes and blues also.

I'm not sure about the GNX but the T type was used by the secret service and certain police dept. I have been searching ebay and type in police and you should find one. By the way, my friend had a 94 caprice with the LT1 and a hypertech programmer and CAI with dual flows and ran mid 14's at Milan last year..

just seen a 2006 state trooper car in texas, was on my way to dallas and had a truck pulled over

massachusetts state troopers just received 20 2006 mustang gt's and ive talked with cops and they said that there crown vics are totally different in speed and suspension than a stock one

My dad is a cop of 25+years....he said the crown vics do have some suspension upgrades, alternator, and water pump difference. He said the chargers are faster in a straight line but handle horrible...Around here alot of audi a4's and s4's get stolen and my dad said it isnt even worth chaseing them because they handle so well (awd). Some police departments i know have even considered using STi's. But the mustang's and camaro's are still used heavily. Also my dad said the old caprices had LT1's in them.

the police in camden county ga always have unique cars everytime u watch cops and they are in ga camden is on their i know that one of the depts have a viper! they patrol the innerstate so good that the county i live in doesnt even patrol it!

My '94 Crown Vic Interceptor ran consistent 16.9's all night long in full stock trim, with push bar and spotlight still intact. Never did much but minor tweaks to it here and there - can't do a lot to the non-PI motors, really - and only got it down to a 16.7 after better tires, lighter rims, misc. weight reduction, and an electric fan. The fastest I ever took it up to was 125 MPH on a flat straightaway in Kansas one time - it had a bit more to go, but my tires were only speed rated for 115 and things were feeling a bit squirmy at that speed so I chickened out. Lots of folks over at crownvic.net have pegged the 140 MPH needle at one time or another.

The newer 99+ models run lower 16's, maybe high 15's at best, but can be made to run in the mid- to low-15's with little more than a Marauder airbox, Lightning MAF, 4.10 gears, and a chip tune. They're not the unbeatable speed demons of lore that everyone has thought them to be - cops aren't running 440 Dodges or 460 Ford Special Service packages anymore - but they are VERY darned reliable tanks, and they take a heckuva beating both mechanically and structurally. They're built with redundant cooling setups and beefed-up framework/suspensions to stand up to the crap they're subjected to on a daily basis by cops and cabbies, alike - jumping curbs, repeated WOT blasts, sustained high speeds, etc. They're also one of the last body-on-frame vehicles still being built in the world, which is (besides their weight) one of the things making them one of the safest rides on the road.

Example: a corrections officer I used to work with was struck head-on by some old lady at night on the way back from a transport run at about 65 MPH. The old lady was crushed to death in whatever the heck she was driving (it was some generic mid-size domestic, I forget the exact make/model); the officer walked away without so much as a scratch (the driver's door even opened without a problem). The exploding fuel tank from rear collisions gag is blown way out of proportion, as just about ANY car that gets nailed at 60+ MPH from behind while it's stationary is going to probably rupture the tank - my buddy's '04 Edge Ranger that suffered such an impact just last week, for example (luckily he wasn't in there, he was helping someone change a flat on the side of the highway).

I keep kicking myself in the arse for selling my '94 CVPI, but maybe someday ... driveway space permitting ... I'll have a '99+ model to replace it as a daily driver, giving the 'Stang time to sit back and become a weekend toy.

The average crown vic cop cars run 16.6. Heavy car with the weight of a light rack and the bullet proof cage that sits in the back.

That isn't an actual secret service used vehicle...just the regan administration gave the "go ahead" to do that using local police and drug agents. The Secret Service doesn't give any of their cars away...they used the old ones as "beat on vehicles" in training. The Secret Service does more intelligence in counterfieting than anything...

Here in northeastern Georgia, we have a few 99+ Mustang GT's that patrol the interstate. The sheriff of the county I live in has a 1999 SVT Cobra cop car that the department purchased used from a local dealer. I've seen mid 90's Camaro Z28's in other parts of the state here used as patrol cars as well.

I am not positive if this is true...I heard that another shore town here in NJ has a cop who owns a blown z06. Rumors say, he takes the car out in the summer to assist in street races and pursuits. Any truth here you think? I Heard guy in my class, talking about he thought a vette wanted to race him and then pulled his ass over!

Dont know if they were GNX's but CT deff has/had atleast 1 GN.

Bentley429, how did you go about making your sig?

The caprices were 9c1 and had suspenssion upgrades as well as long life hoses and upgraded alt /w the LT1 engine.

They have these secret things called "lights" and "sirens." They use some kind of magic or magnetism, to make cars slow down. It's crazy when some people who are speeding see the "lights" and "sirens" they start slowing down.

Yeah uh... Usually when someone is speeding, they're going a set speed.

For example, I was speeding at 80mph down the interstate. I pass a cop. He turns on his lights and takes off. As soon as I see this is happening. I let off the gas, turn on my right blinker, and slow down. He "ran me down" because I was going 60mph and slowing.

If I wanted to be crazy, then after passing the cop I would floor it. He would not have "ran me down."

See what I'm trying to say?
