What do the cop cars run in a 1/4?

Just because you're car may have a faster top speed and quicker quarter mile time than the standard cop cars doesn't mean you are going to get away, and not get "run down". The police have radios, helicopters, stop sticks and in some cases in rural areas with long straight freeways they have planes. A lot of state and county police agencies have special chase vehicles, like LS1 Camaros and in some cases they even have modded "muscle cars" that have either been built by the departments or seized in drug raids and street racing raids. I know there is a department in so. Florida that has 2 modded 03 Cobras. I remember a article in MM&FF several years ago thet had a story about a NYPD fox mustang GT that had a vortech supercharger, cobra intake, GT40 heads and full exhaust that was seized in a street racing raid that was used in regular patrols as well as street racing stings. Here in Utah I have seen a highly modded late model dual turbo RX7 get "run down" by a unmarked LS1 Firebird on the interstate. They are always going to be one step ahead, always. Usually in the end the driving skills and adrenalin of the fleeing driver causes them to make bad decisions, and either wreck or "get run down".

the other day i was driving my dads 86 kenne bell'd gt and i saw a terminator and got really excited thinking i might actually get to race one finally (my dad and i have a bet which is faster). it pulled next to me at a light and i thought well...here goes nothing. then i peered over into the car and saw a man mysteriously dressed in a poliece uniform, gun and all. i jokingly said going to a costume party? still thinking it was some random dude, and he said yeah..right. light turned green and he hit the lights and siren for a sec to show me he was a cop and took off rather quickly chirping 2nd gear. i will never street race agaian.

How did you see the gun if it is in their holster, on their hip:)

What else is done to the 86? If just a kennebell...the 03/04 will dominate badly:)

the gun was on his belt and he was on my drivers side, and he was a little bit lower then me, and i could see it with my xray vision :D . we bought the car from a close family friend who owns 100 some odd cars and this was his most sentimental. he didnt overlook anything when he built it, but im not sure of everything done. i know its a 20k mile 306 bottom end, gt40 heads worked rediculiously well, ported gt40 lower, 11-13lbs boost, tko, full msd ignition, and more suspension than imaginable. my car (88 gt) runs a solid 13.2 and this thing walks away from me like there is no tomorrow. stock terminator will have trouble beating is, but a modified one....my a$$ is grass

A hundred cars?

Stock 03/04 Cobra's...hit 111mph in the quarter mile...get that car to the track...it will probably be closer than you think...head to the track and find out:nice:

i am not doubting they are fast. i am infatuated with terminators and will own one some day. the family friend is a multi millionaire and had houses in montana, northern and southern california. one of his warehouses of cars is fairly close to my house and the 86 was stored there along with his 69 shelby 500, matching 93/04 black cobras, 67 aluminium 427 gt fastback, 69 torino taledega, 2 67 gt500s, 04 harley truck, so forth and so on. dudes loaded. im still thinking i can take a stock terminator though...same power and about 900lbs lighter with better traction...souldnt be too hard. track is coming as soon there is a free weekend.

tddpop - It is case by case...

You are perfectly correct in saying it is case by case. Sometimes chases are called off due to the danger involved. However, it is never a good idea to run from the cops. The training they go through is crazy. They have far superior resources and are trained not to freak out in chase.

In big cities that is much more prevalent...I guarantee you...the local cops here haven't had any;)

Heres a brilliant idea, why don't you just go flying past one, and see if you get "ran down". And then when you get cought, and you will. See if you get away with your license, and your anal virginity. How about that? As carlos Mencia says..DEE DEE DEE:nice:

I have, and I got away...:)

I do not recommend that...

how do you know that only big city cops have had intensive training, so your basically saying that theres no training for cops unless they are in a big city... thats doubtful.

Theres something to be proud of. At least you realize its not the smartest thing to do. I know some people that think otherwise. Anyway, do you have any numbers from your combo as far as power?

Lol, I said it is more prevalent. I didn't say only in big cities. The "intensive training" is more prevalent in bigger cities for high speed chases.

I'm not proud of it:)

I ran 8.4 at 87mph in the 1/8 mile with full accessories (minus smog pump) and at 3,400lb race weight, 210lb driver. No dyno numbers:(

Have you seen the zo6's? How do you know they were modified? Where do you live so that the state can buy that county zo6 cop cars to beat on?

There are all kinds of cop cars, nothing special. They are "stock cars" in general. Intrepids, Impalas, Crown Vic's, Caprice's, B4C Camaros, etc...etc.

There were a couple of officers at school one day talking to classes about careers in law enforcement etc. and the subject came up and they mentioned some the cars they were using to catch people.
